Elizabeth Shepherd (Toronto, Do Right!) Her multiple industry accolades have landed her 2 Juno nominations, tours in Europe and across and North America, 2 separate, sold-out week-long stints in Japan, and most recently, a show at the legendary Hollywood Bowl with Jamie Cullum & Count Basie Orchestra. Fans and critics have drawn comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Diana Krall and Rickie Lee Jones. And what these names all share is both an accessibility and a distinctness that quality people cant quite pin down. Press quotes: Debut album ‘Start To Move’ voted the Top 3 Jazz Albums of the Year" -Gilles Peterson show on BBC Radio 1 UK in 2006. “Not Unlike Joni Mitchell, Shepherd uses the constructs of jazz along with elements of the folk and soul traditions to build a contemporary sound all her own†-Now Magazine Toronto. Jan 2008 “Shepherd and her crew can be slick and sophisticated without feeling the need to show off – the truest mark of a musician’s confidence†-Globe & Mail, May 6, 2008 The Jessica Stuart Few (Toronto) Fit to groove through the bounds of all parameters, Jessica Stuart embodies the essence of pop and jazz, creating a dynamic sound, merging outstanding creativity with traditional roots. With a national tour behind her and a lifetime of musical inspiration, Jessica’s unique cultural experiences and coast-to-coast response marks her influence as a Canadian artist with a sound of her own. Cohesive and full of melodic prowess, The Jessica Stuart Few continues to tap the senses of obscurity and tradition while referencing the roots of jazz with a soulful and funky twist. Katie Du Temple and the Stay Toughs Katie DuTemple blends jazz with electronica and pop influences. Her compositions are always exciting, eclectic and brings a fresh perspective to Toronto's music scene. Her band "The Stay Toughs" believes that music is a supreme form of expression and with this in mind, Katie’s singing and compositional styles are always saturated with emotion. She composes and sings with a combination of heart and mind that make a delicate balance of intellect and passion in her music and her band mates are right there with her. Iniffa Born in England with a Jamaican background, this accomplished Canadian singer/songwriter's voice can be compared to greats like Nina Simone and Marsha Griffiths. Iniffa has toured extensively with international acts including; the Jimmy Cliff World Tour, the Bob Marley World Tour with Ziggy Marley and Toots Hibbert, and the Euro-Disney Hakuna Matata Lion King World Tour where she gained international fame for her unique sound as well as her engaging stage personality. After a self-imposed break from performing, Iniffa has returned to Toronto from Jamaica. She is now working on her own material that has jazz, reggae & soul undertones.
  8. Their 70s stuff is great - but when the started to sound like Bon Jovi - with their power ballads that's when I started to tune them out. Steven leaving the band sounds like a rock star temper tantrum.
  9. this week y'all! I hope you can come out and support!
  10. It's been at least 2 years since Umphrey McGee has played in Toronto and we are stoked! Of all the current Jambands out there - Umphrey's embodies that "take it to the limit improvisation" that we love plus their jams rank amongst some of the most juicy and satisfying on tour today. Time is now to buy tickets as the show is on Wednesday! Don't miss this one folks - it's going to be ...er... EPIC! Umphrey's Ticket Contest Update Congrats to Large Marge who has won a pair of tickets to Umphrey's McGee plus something special from the band. We are all looking forward to the show next Wednesday, we hope you can make it.

  14. Glad you pointed out ESCALATE! Genres: Jazz Fusion, Instrumental Website: http://www.escalatemusic.com Late in the year 2000… Two sets of Brampton brothers (Grant and Tyler Drygas, Shandy and Jordan Kern) united to form ESCALATE! As an experiment gone frighteningly right, Kern melodies and Drygas rhythms combined to form a force irresistible to human ears, feet and hips alike. A four-piece instrumental outfit, ESCALATE! forsake vocals and lyrics to concentrate on blending and reconfiguring diverse genres spawning a fresh and innovative sound mosaic. Five years later… The release of their debut full-length GROOVES.BEATS.SCIENCE.SOUL. A record as much in the spirit of Air, Out Hud, and Stereolab, as past visionaries The Meters and On The Corner-era Miles Davis, GROOVES.BEATS.SCIENCE.SOUL is a disc with a scope wide enough to delight both party people shaking their moneymakers on the dance floor as well as chilled out beat heads sinking back into a bean bag chair strapped with headphones. Perhaps most impressive, however, is their live show: A continuous flow of invention that seamlessly segues from one song to the next. Now, in 2007, more focused than ever, the four are once again preparing to head into the studio. Always dynamic and energetic, ESCALATE! continue to swagger, not stagger, in hot pursuit of their unique sonic vision. Thursday, Nov 12, 2009 9:00 PM EST / doors @ 09:00 PM Nickodemus featuring DJ medicineman / DJ Goldfinger / ESCALATE! at Revival - Toronto,ON REGULAR $12.00
