  1. It's fucking crazy here. I went to a popular hotel bar last night to check out a band and must have been propositioned like 10 times by "bar girls". Definately not the "beer and set of music" I had in mind. THe crowd consisted of about 39% single white men and 60% Indonesian girls looking for a "date". Pretty friggin' uncomfortable for a "Mr. PC" like myself. I think I'll take it easy until I get out of Jakarta and stick to the poolside. I imagine it's worst here in the capital, and will be a lot more chill once I get to the smaller cities. Starting work tomorrow, doing a workshop with teachers at the Muslim state university. Really looking forward to seeing what that will be like!
  2. You sure it was hockey photos you were looking at Booche?
  3. Got here this afternoon after an all-too-brief taste of Hong Kong. Totally wierd place. Call for prayer just started out my window and it was a sticky 36 degrees today!
  4. I posted in another thread that Lovely Feathers are playing in Montreal on the 8th, so they're def. not going to be in Guelph.
  5. in Switzerland you have to pay for radio. They literally have "radio police" that come around to check and see if you have radios in your house. We got busted there and ended up paying 35 bucks every 2 months or some bullshit.
  6. if you want to hit thailand I'd suggest the star alliance RTW ticket. My girlfriend has done them several times. THey're tricky in terms of calculations, but staralliance.com has a good mileage calculator on their site.
  7. A few come to mind for me: Bodnath and Pashupatinath in the Kathmandu valley. Possibly the most spiritually "alive" places I've ever felt. Andalucia in Spain. Beauty and culture and fun rolled into one. and of course... St. Viateur street in Montreal. No better neighborhood in Canada than Mile End, IMO. I've lived here on and off since 2000 and never grow bored of it.
  8. The quebec gov't has really invested in wind power, particluarly around the Gaspe peninsula. They've got projects totalling 3,000MW planned there now. Also, Algoma Steel up in Sault Ste. Marie is starting to produce the components for the towers.
  9. kev, I got one word for you: www.iisd.org/interns If you are serious about it, do let me know and I can probably help you swing something. Of course, since the Harper gov't cut their funding to DFAIT, the pot just got a lot smaller, but I've got good connections there. Also, let me know where you're willing to start and what you're willing to do. My Dad's principal at Fleming College in Lindsay, which is the school of environmental resource sciences. They're trying to be the greenest college in Ontario and get some decent work coming their way. I could get your name over there if needed. Best of luck getting your foot in the door! Fire me your CV and a game plan if you want some help.
  10. some of my tops: - OLD Gruyere (18 months+) - Britannia Cheddar (3 year old, black label) - Oka Classique A great summer trip that we take is to the Warwick cheese festival, not far from Montreal. http://www.festivaldesfromages.qc.ca/fr/index.htm You can taste the best cheeses canada has to offer.
