  1. thanks for the clarification timouse, turns out I was on the wrong setting. This was simply looking for technical assistance. NOte the lack of any names named or reference to particular issues leading to ignoring. Don't see how it should warrant any debate or controversy.
  2. thanks. That clears it right up. Anyone else? Mods?
  3. facebook is just wierd. I've had a strange intro to it courtesy of one of my students, and have been pretty turned off by it since then. Unfortunately there are a couple of people I'd like to keep in touch wiht on there, so i find myself a bit torn about totally dropping it.
  4. Unfortunately, after nearly 6 years on this board, I've reached the point of employing the "ignore user" function for the first time ever. Could someone explain what the difference between tinted glass, wood crate and iron box is in terms of the ignore levels? Thanks!
  5. wierd, I'm sure it was the junos. I guess I could be mistaken, it was 7 years ago I guess. here's a link to last night's show if anyone wants to give it a listen: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2LW6SQFE
  6. no, but it was the 2000 junos in Toronto if there's some way of finding that stuff online. Edit: fixed for accuracy
  7. so i just watched them. jim bryson opened (good show! jeremy garra of Arcade Fire on drums). WS put on a great mix of "hits" and new tunes. A couple of gaffes here and there, but tight as hell considering their 6 year layoff or whatever its been. Good stuff!
  8. i've got a number of publications/contributions to publications in the works right now, but they're more academic in nature. what type of writing are you thinking of doing?
  9. funny al, I think I also saw them on that tour with the inbreds. I don't think thrush hermit was playing though.
  10. I'm going to see them tonight (in about 30mins). I remember going to see them at the SAW gallery in Ottawa back in the mid-late '90s. Seeing them open for the Rheostatics at Barrymore's, and remember when they won the Juno more recently, they didn't have a speech prepared, so andrew (I think) told a knock-knock joke. Great band and nice guys!
  11. just got a pair of tix for Game 5 (next thursday). Anyone else going to be there?
  12. this is a great show. Caught them together a couple of years ago. Rockabilly extreme.
  13. so many reasons to cheer for the Isles. - Eliminates the most hated team in the league - Ted Nolan - Better chance at beating Buffalo - They deserve it and would easily if it weren't for DiPietro's concussion.
  14. Well, after mourning the demise of the Rheos, it is great news to read that the Wooden Stars have a new record deal and a new album coming out next week. They've got a couple of tracks up on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thewoodenstars and they sound great! Here's their release tour: 12 Apr Red Dog Tavern Peterborough, Ontario 13 Apr Main Hall Montreal, Quebec 19 Apr Horseshoe Toronto, Ontario 20 Apr The Casbah Hamilton, Ontario 21 Apr Babylon Ottawa, Ontario These guys were among my faves while I lived in Ottawa in the '90s. Looking forward to catching them again!

    I'm Sorry

I'm sorry that I'm sitting here in the Yucatan peninsula of mexico, surrounded by beach, booze and surf, working on a stupid report for my boss! I'm sorry to everyone here I made feel guilty by saying I had to go do my work.
  16. typical CBC leafs homers referring to him as "the goalie" and even Holik. Christ does CBC need some new commentators.

  18. THis thread is looking a bit like a historians' convention. How about some contemporary voices? I'll submit these two boys: M. Ward (click for a track): http://www.matadorrecords.com/mpeg/m_ward/m_ward_vincent.mp3 Jim James (well, since everyone's hear MMJ, here's a duet between Matt and Jim): http://www.somuchsilence.com/mp3/mward_magic_trick.mp3
  19. they're all shit, IMO. I go to the Provigo here (I think it's quebec's Lawblows) about once every 3 months and am amazed at how depressing and EXPENSIVE it is. Everything pre-packed and shrink-wrapped, all from their limited range of "Provigo approved" brands, and consistently 10-20% more than my local, independant grocers, unless I feel like I need 100 of whatever item in the mega-bulk supersaver size. My local guys have all sorts of interesting food items, in a smaller (reasonable) space, and charge less, instead of more, for local products. Suport your local grocer!
  20. I've got a few to add In a few months' time I'll be able to add Senegal, Ghana, Mali, and Burkina Faso! 22. how's the sound on that '98 show? NOt the biggest fan of the '78 band. A bit TOO loose IMO. Really played around with teh songs a LOT, and kinda all in the same way.
  23. I'll warn you now against showing up without a job. They've cracked down A LOT on visa issues since 1992~!
  24. www.eslcafe.com www.ohayosensei.com I taught overseas a long while back in Seoul, South Korea at Kyung Hee University. Good gig. If you suggest some places you're most interested in going you'll probably get more specific info. Oh yeah, and knowing what kind of education you have is a big issue too. Did you do a TESL degree? do you have a BA or MA, etc?
