  1. they're playing in a 250 person venue here tonight. Thought about going, but haven't really listened to them since OCTA, so I probably wouldn't even know 80% of the songs.
  2. jesus, the Habs are in serious need of some firepower. Not one player getting a point per game. They need to bring in a goal scorer, stat.
  3. I can't believe the gall of the conservatives of scrapping all the liberal plans, then parading them back out one by one a year later as if they were their own. I hope voters will recognize this.
  4. probably the same one i posted here (my recording) now converted to mp3. More on the show here if you wnat the editorial from www.popmontreal.com:
  5. the link to the show is now in the "live music" section or whatever it's called.
  6. ok, so it was tons of fun. Final Fantasy opened and played 5 or 6 songs, then after a 20 minute break the band came out adn did an 1:10 min or so set. Mostly new stuff. The sound wasn't great since they were really using a makeshift PA (it WAS in the basement of a church after all), but they were definately going all out. The show sold out by about 7:30, so in total about 400 people were there. Cool wandering around and just seeing all the folks from your neighbourhood at the same show. Tapes came out as well as they can be expected to in a venue that had a PA similar to the Dominion tavern or similar makeshift show bars. I'll post a link later. Oh yeah, forgot to mention the new tunes. I'd say 60% are great 20% are decent and 20% are meh. Not quite up to the level of funeral, but definately a few kickass numbers.
  7. DOubt anyone else is here, but they're playing at the corner of St. Viateur and ST. Urbain in the big church (literally 200m from my apartment). 10 bucks for a ticket if anyone is around adn wanting to go.
  8. that's what I was thinking, but I'm not sure if the same name applies in banking. In french it's called "procuration" but I don't know what it is in english. Happy birthday by the way!
  9. My bank account in Switzerland is overdrawn and I want to close it. My boss over there has offered to pay the outstanding balance and take care of the closure but I need to write a letter stating that I give her the power to do transactions on my behalf. WHat's it called? ANyone know?
  10. I always like Northern 2 (on Somerset) for chinese. Yummy mushroom dumplings in spicy peanut sauce and great ma-po tofu. Good fish in black bean as well.
  11. I had a great time during that Fall '97 run. I think 12-11-97 was the first time I did an audience recording of phish (with my un-trusty Marantz 430 cassette recorder!). The 12-13-97 show in Albany remains another of my all-time faves. Huge party scene there!
  12. another 80's classic was Macho Man vs. George "The Animal" Steele in the battle for Miss Elisabeth. I think the Animal ate the turnbuckle in that one.
  13. They're playing 5 nights here in montreal next month at a nice small venue (450 people), but unfortunately I was out of the country when they announced the shows and sold the tix. Will try to get there though.
  14. Priestess is all the buzz around here. apparently a great band to catch live.

    BEER!!

Just got to Seoul after a warm and sunny trip in Bali, and am drinking a tall-boy of Cass (rhymes with Ass for a reason) and thinking enviously of the tasty brewery I found in Bali: Storm Brewing Company. They make a really great pale ale that was perfect for those "32 in the shade" kind of days. Bottle fermented, with nice malty flavour and good citrus hues. It was so nice to find a delicious microbrew in Asia, a place where Budweiser-style beers tend to be king.
  17. oh yeah, if you're into a bit of a divey scene with great music and wierdness, hit Barfly on Wednesday. It's at St. Laurent near Rachel and they have great live Swing/Old Time stuff on wednesdays.
  18. for vegan, go with Chu Chai (Thai) on St. Denis, Aux Vivres on St. Laurent, Pharmacie Esparanza for light food and coffee at St. Laurent and St. Viateur. Le Commensal has buffet-style lunches downtown with lots of vegan options as well. I'm afraid that soy milk coffee will rule out pretty much all the badass coffee joints since there kind of purists. some of them won't even serve decaf. You'll probably have to hit the chain spots, which is mostly what they have down in that neighborhood anyhow. For entertainment, check out www.montrealshows.com for listings. Also look in the www.montrealmirror.com. Casa del popolo and Le Cheval Blanc have good vibes iwth live music if you're looking for that. Don't know much else that's going on since I'm not in town right now. Hope that helps. EDIT: you're thinking of Main Hall I think. And if memory serves I suggested you go to the Guyanese place, "Curry Garden" for food. Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else though. It's about 15 blocks north of where you're at. You can take the bus or a cab straight up St. Laurent and get there easily.

I wonder how the greens feel about this? I bet it takes some wind out of their sails in terms of polling. Just when they seemed to be pulling themselves together.
