  1. they came on between 9:20 and 9:45 at the 2 Montreal shows.
  2. a shadow of last year's lineup IMO
  3. DEM, I taught 2 courses last year: Global education (1st year course)which focused on global inequity and the role that the north has played in it. And Education and Development, which was actually a grad course about the International Development industry and how it frames education. Bob, I'm doing my degree in Education and International development. I'm leaving in a few weeks to Senegal to do my research there with an NGO that I've been working with for the past few years. Pretty fun stuff! Eric, Still remember that clear as day!
  4. well, it's done. I'm now officially a doctoral "candidate" (as opposed to student). Might not seem like a huge deal at first, but I had funding that was contingent on this, so it'll finally get sent to me and I can pay off some debts! Also means I'm free to start my fieldwork. Good thing since I've already bought my plane ticket. Kind of lucky. My toughest questions were from a committee member who couldn't be here (he's in Alberta) and he sent 5 PAGES worth of questions to be asked. The other guys decided it'd take too long so I could just write a written response and send it by email. Kind of draws things out, but at least I got everything approved. Thanks for the vibes again everyone!
  5. Thanks folks! Sitting in my office trying to shorten it down some more, two hours 'till showtime. Calamity, I've always been a fan of the "long drink of water" stalling technique, especially with bottled water with a screwed on cap, but I'll think about adding the "knowing gaze" into the repertoire as well!
  6. One more sleep Booche, One more sleep.
  7. Who knows, maybe it'll help. Tomorrow afternoon I defend my comprehensive exams for my PhD. It's basically the 1/2 way point of the whole doctoral process, but you can't go on if your committee doesn't pass you. I'm feeling fairly good about it, but it's one of those 'once in a lifetime' things that are a bit tough to prepare for. Not really any way of knowing what questions will come to peoples' minds or what I might forget when put on the spot. Anyhow, 1.5 years of work riding on a 2-hour meeting, so I thought I'd send out a call. Thanks!
  8. Kev, go take a look at some of the discussion at the globe and mail (after any article about the Sens). That place TOTALLY fits his description. Disgruntled leafs fans who have nothing better to do now that their team is out than troll Ottawa fans and speak poorly of any series they're in.
  9. From Dave Hodge (TSN) today:
  10. I also love that they spent about 3 minutes gloating over how they got the penalty right and the refs mistakenly put Gomez in the box (when Brodeur clearly threw the trip). Only to finally admit like 1/2 way through the penalty that MAYBE the penalty was to Brodeur and Gomez was serving it. On more serious matters, fuckin' sens can't EVER make a game easy for themselves.
  11. I would if I could (mind you' date=' Harry should go first ). Ever notice how Cole is trying to conserve the word "the"? He does this when he refers to the team names: "Here come Buffalo Sabres with the puck"[/quote'] That's cause he's saving his use of "the" for refences to Ottawa players. As in, "the Ottawa defenceman", "the Ottawa goalie", etc. as opposed to (successfully) referring to them by their real names.
  12. I loved that. Cole:"Brodeur is unstoppable!!" Cole: "And the stop made by the goalie" How much longer must bob cole pollute our canadian airwaves?
  13. www.couchsurfing.com is an option
  14. TSN saying it's his catching hand. Fucking hell. What luck.
  15. Couldn't disagree more. I find sometimes people can't get past the raw, stripped down style of his music. If you check out some of the cover versions of his work you might be able to better appreciate his work. For example, M. Ward does a cover of "To Go Home" on his latest album that might actually be the highlight of the album. The cover stays REALLY true to the original, but has a lot more production: Sample here: http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF256128-02-01-01.mp3 Gord Gano (Violent Femmes) and Beck also do covers of Johnson songs on a fairly recent tribute album to him that really let some of their power come through.
  16. it's interesting. the citizen is saying the sens-devils series starts tomorrow, while the sun is saying thurs. we'll have to see!
  17. Actually, the Grand Prix weekend can be totally chill if you know how to avoid the meathead madness. Basically F1 fans are pretty uncreative and limit themselves to Crescent street, the old port and Parc Ave (between Mount Royal and St. Viateur). Anywhere else, you wouldn't be able to tell the race was going on (other than the noise of the cars, which you can hear across the whole island).
  18. don't know if I've mentioned this site before (or anyone else has), but www.myp2p.eu/NHL has links to streams of every playoff game.
  19. you know, I don't think this will sell out too quickly. I'll grab my tix a bit closer to the date. Also, noticed that Tortoise are booked for the jazz fest while I was on the Metropolis site! Damn, I'm missing the best shows this summer.
  20. Strange. Ahhh, guess that means I'm only 49% smarter than people who can't
  21. After getting off to on the wrong foot with a CC as an undergrad and finding myself in collections a couple of years later, I've managed to work it out. Since I get points from my card (Royal Bank), I put most of my major purchases (including groceries, etc) on my card and pay it off religiously. So far I've paid about 30 bucks interest since I got it a year ago, due to missing one payment while being out of the country. Aside from that one incident last year, the card hasn't cost me anything. In fact, since transactions on my CC don't count as monthly transactions, it helps to keep my bank account from accumulating extra transaction costs. I'm surprised about high available balance counting against you for credit. I thought it was the opposite! OH YEAH, and for suggestions... If you use online banking with your bank currently, I strongly suggest getting one through your bank. It makes monitoring your balance and making payments so much easier.
  22. got everything but sgtrane. What's that? Wierd. can read it almost as fast as regular text.
  23. Awesome! I leave town for the summer on the 10th. Nothing like flying with a hangover!
  24. Not if their football fans are anything like their hockey fans!
  25. Indeed. We'll be driving in from montreal so I've gotta check with my buddy, but a beer and (veg)burger before game time might be a great idea. I'll update ya later in the week!
