It's true that in this day and age most established artists have already unloaded most of their unreleased material and I acknowledge we've had some debates about what can or can't be included here that needn't be had. The main function of the rule is to make sure that the hypothetical 12 song CD we're compling could actually be compiled from official sources. Also so that they don't just become "fantasy" albums, people listing tracks that simply don't exist apart from their own stoned imaginations. In this case, the theme is pretty easy to play on - "Songs The Black Crowes have covered". If however the theme was "Black Crowes versions of cover songs" then you'd have to ensure the Crowes have indeed released a version of it, officially and not just in trader's circles. I really enjoyed his show growing up and looking back I am sure it was him who got me thinking about food and getting into the kitchen. His recipes were accessible and he didn't get too hung up on the details - it was true home cooking. Apparently he really was a bit of a lush. RIP James.

since the hypothetical CD we're compiling is "Songs The Black Crowes have covered", I'd say the songs in question simply have to have been released by the original artist. So, you'd get the original versions of these songs on the CD, not the BC versions.
