  1. I don't what the list etiquette is to respond to ancient posts like this but F*ck it... dems de perks of being a newbie!

I'm looking forward to this show because, although I've never heard the Fat Cats before, I have an intimate relationship with them already. My brother (www.spectraleyes.com) painted me an interpreted portrait (oil on canvas) for my birthday in 1996 that the Fat Cats then used for the cover of their "Daredevil" album. I look forward to telling them at the show that the original is currently hanging above my mantel even though I've never heard a note of their music (sure... flame away!). I suppose I should feel entitled to a free copy of the cd, non?!?

    cheers

    adambrot

    A very cool story adambrot!

If you private message me your snail mail address, I'll be sure to send you a copy of Daredevil in the mail. I know that the Cats won't mind. It will be a copy without the jewel case artwork, but that won't really matter! ;):)

It's no secret around here that I love the Fatties. When people ask me what my favourite band is I don't have a definite answer, but the Fatties are the answer as often as or more often than any other band.

    Peace, Mark

  2. When I first read CJ's post I thought to myself "Wow, Dr. Evil must have something really important going on to miss a Bruce Cockburn show." Dr. Evil LOVES Bruce Cockburn! I didn't even clue in to the date of the show.

I just finished reading Dr. Evil's reason for missing the show, and I am speechless and teary.

Dave, it will be such a treat to see you in Kitchener for George's birthday. We'll have to play some Cockburn!

    Peace, Mark

  3. there is parking at the mansion house, but they may also have a large tent set up there, reducing the lot size considerably. i recall the st.kitts posse parking across ontario st., in one of the lots off of cherry st. this even affords the opportunity for some trunk-beers. you can see this area in the map (link) below:

    http://www.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=st+catharines,+on&ie=UTF8&z=17&ll=43.155137,-79.246584&spn=0.005338,0.013561&t=h&om=1

the mansion house is between ontario and william, near st.paul. i would park off cherry st., between trafalgar and salina.

i hope to make it there myself!

Thanks for the great map and suggestion qqc. What do you say #2, does this sound like the plan from your end?

Looking forward to letting loose after a busy week!

    Peace, Mark

  4. Apparently we're not supposed to want to know this stuff, but prefer instead to direct our thinking to goods and services we don't have but would like to purchase.

I'll always remember Cockburn once saying that he always respected people in the countries that he travelled in who didn't, in his words, have the leisure to be disinterested in politics.

I remember many years ago a couple of friends of mine saying that they didn't like Cockburn because he was too interested in politics. Come to think of it, they liked to go shopping a lot ...

    Peace, Mark

  5. Thanks for the link Willy. I've bookmarked the site so that I can digest the news in small batches. I find if I try to take in too much of that sort of thing at once that I turn into a very unhappy person. I am constantly trying to find the right balance ... I want to stay as informed as possible without driving myself crazy.

    Peace, Mark

  6. Fatties Halloween show is on the friday.

Sorry Mark's, we have two parties going on this year and it's just workng out this way.

    When's the FT party?

Thanks for the clarification kc ... no worries on this end ... just want to make sure I've got the date right.

I think there is a FT party is on the Saturday, but I'm not positive.

    Peace, Mark

  7. Nice! Diesel Dog at the Lanc on Fri. Oct. 20, Harvard Mouse and friends at the Lanc on Sat. Oct. 21 ... that weekend is shaping up to be a fun one in KW ... then Jomomma the next Sat. Oct. 28 at the Starlight ... spooky funky fun ...

    Peace, Mark

  8. Word has it that geomouse turns 40 soon, and that we're celebrating at the Boathouse in Kitchener on Sat. Oct. 21 with some squeaking by Harvard Mouse and then an open stage afterward. Should be a fun night!

    Peace, Mark

  9. I'm not sure why Jomomma gets so much flak on this message board.

Lots of people like Jomomma, that's for sure!

I always enjoy getting down and spinnin' 'round to their funky beats.

They bring out a solid crowd of people in KW.

Good luck with the cd guys, and with your upcoming shows!

    Peace, Mark

  10. Hey Nat, of course we remember you! :)

I love the Lanc for shows, but it does take some work to make it happen there ... bringing in some sound gear, bringing in people to work the door, and doing promo to make sure people show up. It certainly requires more work for the band and/or promoter than running a show at an established live music venue like The Starlight, Pepper Jack's, The Casbah, etc., where there is an in-house sound system (with someone to run it), regular door people, regular promotion done by the venue, etc. But the Lanc is a great place for a party, that's for sure!

    Peace, Mark

  11. Sorry things didn’t work out for the Westside. It was either move it or cancel it so I hope people can appreciate the situation. I definitely wanted to see the theatre go down but shit happens. I’m glad I was able to pull it off at PJ’s and it seems like everyone still had a good time.

No worries briguy ... people still had a good time, and moving the show to PJ's was definitely a much better option than cancelling! I guess I had my hopes up that the change in venue would lead to an extra-special show experience, but realized during the show that some of the Little Feat magic doesn't come across as well on a smaller stage. At least that's my take on it ... some bands (such as Little Feat) need a big stage to be fully appreciated I think. Still a solid show though, and thanks for all that you did to make it happen.

    Peace, Mark

  12. From an email that I received today:

Hey all, lots going on with Moses Mayes…

Moses Mayes third full length album ‘Second Ring’ coming out November 7, 2006!!!

That’s right people, Moses Mayes’s third full length ‘Second Ring’ will be released nationally in Canada on November 7, 2006 through Fusion 3. Produced by Jamie Shields (the New Deal), the 10 track record features guest vocalists Sherry St.Germain, Ariane Jean & Phatt Al and includes some classic Moses instrumentals and epic jams! Touching on elements of ol’ school funk fusion, Moses puts its stamp on this classic sound with their modern house elements and turntable cuts. This new CD showcases the amazing talent that the band has recruited over the past year combining the bands live show with a more focused studio effort.
