  1. Babsy,

I'm not the promoter for the Diesel Dog and Jomomma show, but I most likely will be going, if even only for part of it. I've got a really busy day on Saturday, with my daughter's gymnastics meet starting early and then my drummer's wedding (which should be a blast as we will be playing), so I'll be calling it a relatively early night on Friday.

    Peace, Mark

  2. Good times on Saturday night up at the Lanc! I had lots of fun playing, and then really enjoyed hearing Rose Garland kick out some tasty Dead songs and jams. Two drummers ... awesome ... it was a treat watching and listening to my long-time friend and Harvard Mouse drummer Tim Fisher join Rose Garland for both of their sets. Tim has been into the Dead for 20 years, and he fit right in with Rose Garland ... some of the drum fills and rolls from the two drummers were absolutely mind-blowing ... dark starr had the best seat in the house, sandwiched between the 2 drummers.

For the record, here is most of the Harvard Mouse setlist:

    Let The Good Times Roll

    Cleaning Windows

??? (brain blip on my part, can't remember what we did here)

    Time Fades Away

    U.S. Blues

    Ohio

    Aiko

    Good Lovin'

Deep Elem Blues (or was this after Sympathy???)

Sympathy for the Devil (bluegrassy feel)

    Peace, Mark

  3. Greg,

Thanks for the kind words and positive feedback. You did send me a Private Message a week or two ago about the discs I sent you. I did reply to your PM but when I checked my Private Messages recently it seemed like something was wierd about them, so I wondered if you ever got my reply to you. There was nothing super-important in my reply to you - basically it was some kind words back to you for your kind words to me. :) ::

All the best to you Greg, and I hope that we connect in the near future.

    Peace, Mark

  4. Sorry I couldn't stay longer, but from what I heard, Contact is a solid band with great instrumental grooves to get people dancing. I would definitely go to another one of their shows ... preferably one where I don't have to get up early the next morning and face a full day of responsibility.

    Peace, Mark

  5. Musta been a good one Mark,I was at the first one also but it was in May 2000. ;)

My first one was definitely not the first one. I'm always a little slow when it comes to these things! :: ;)

One thing that I like experiencing about regular festivals such as the Come Together Music Fest is the thrill that people have when they go for the first time. It really is an overwhelming feeling to show up without having much of a clue about what to expect and going "wow, this is going on in southern Ontario ... if only I'd known sooner!!!" I am certain that will happen to some people this May long weekend, and I hope I am around those people when they express themselves ... that's always fun, listening to people describe the event as they experience it for the first time.

It's going to be a blast!!!

    Peace, Mark

    For Immediate Release

ANNOUNCING JAM CRUISE 3: A HIGH SEAS ADVENTURE

THAT'S EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER THAN BEFORE.

THE JAM BAND GENRE'S ORIGINAL FESTIVAL CRUISE WILL SET SAIL ON JANUARY 6, 2005. TICKETS ON SALE ON WEDNESDAY MAY 19 AT 11:00 am MST.

Jam Cruise 1 and 2 were crowning achievements within the changing face of music festivals and cruise travel. Now, the original Jam Cruise announces Jam Cruise 3, leaving port in Jacksonville, Florida on January 6, 2005 for 4 days aboard Carnival Cruiselines' Celebration.

Jam Cruise 3 will stop in Freeport, Bahamas and, fulfilling a popular request on a questionnaire filled out by last year's cruisers, will offer passengers two full days at sea. The Celebration accommodates 1500 passengers (double the size of the Regal Empress cruise liner used for 1 and 2), and boasts such luxury amenities as 3 pools, nine passenger decks, ten lounges, a twenty-four-hour pizza bar and dinnertime sushi bar, a health spa, and large and comfortable lodging facilities. The fans spoke up and Jam Cruise organizers have listened.

Jam Cruise 3 will host over thirty music performances, featuring fifteen bands from one of today's most thriving music communities - that of improvisational music. The current line up includes Galactic, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), Col Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit (1st show in 10 years!), Ozomatli, North Mississippi Allstars, Peter Rowan & Tony Rice, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Umphrey's McGee, MOFRO, Benevento/Russo Duo, DJ Logic, with more artists to be announced soon. In addition to incredible performances by many of the genre's most celebrated musical pioneers, the Jam Cruise experience promises once-in-a-lifetime artist collaborations and opportunities for hang time with the musicians who are so often inaccessible backstage.

The musicians and the audience who were on board for Jam Cruise 1 and 2 remember the festival fondly. Billy Nershi of The String Cheese Incident, who performed on Jam Cruise 1 with his side project, Billy and Liza, commented, "I was at first hesitant. I thought I'd get claustrophobic. But it turns out it was an absolutely amazing experience. It was really intimate and relaxed. Even the artists, who were there to work, felt like we were on vacation, and absolutely everyone on board that boat knew they were part of something really special. Cloud 9 Adventure's Mark Brown, a partner in the vision and execution of Jam Cruise, recollects, "The whole event exceeded even our highest expectations. We were thrilled to hear from feedback that the artists and the fans held the same sentiment. Jam Cruise 3 should be even better." The next step in summer festivals and cruise travel is here.

Tickets are expected to go quickly. On sale begins Wednesday, May 19 at 11:00 am MST. Cabin prices range from $550 to $1125.00 per person, plus port charges, service fees and gratuities. Call 303.544.0191 or visit www.jamcruise.com for reservations aboard Jam Cruise 3.

  7. I went to my first Come Together Music Fest in May 2001, and had one of the best weekends of my entire life. I've been to 5 additional Come Together Music Festivals since then, including the last one at Izzy's, and I have had an awesome time at every one of them. I will absolutely, positively be there, and am so looking forward to it.

I think when all is said and done, the people that decide to go to this year's festival are going to look back at it when it's over and think "Wow, what a blast! I had so much fun! I can't wait to do it again!" I have a hard time believing that people will not have a great time at this festival, given the number of amazing people that will be there, the fantastic music that we will hear, and the beautiful venue which is so easy to get to for many of us.

May long weekend, camped out at Izzy's with so many friends, listening to sweet music under the sun, moon and stars ... I can think of nowhere else that I'd rather be!

    Peace, Mark

  8. Hey NewRider,

That's great news ... congratulations to Shawn and Laurie!

Nice to see that you'll be out on Saturday night for the Rose Garland & Harvard Mouse show ... it's a "stag & doe" of sorts, as the drummer from each band is getting married the following weekend ... hence the "Deadicated to the Drummers" banner.

Hopefully Shawn and Laurie can also make it to the show on Saturday night up at the Lanc. It's going to be a fun one!!!

    Peace, Mark

  9. Hey Lex,

Head out to the Lanc on Thursday May 6 and/or Saturday May 8 and I'm thinking you'll run into some people that you know :) ::

Also on Fri. May 14 ... Diesel Dog and Jomomma ... I'm guessing you'll be at that one for sure! ;)

Hope to see you soon ... having you in KW is a plus for our community!

    Peace, Mark

  10. I spoke with Mark Wilson a few days ago about this and he was still working with Izzy on the idea of setting up a separate festival camping area for those campers who don't want to sleep. The original plan was to set up a camping area across the road, but that has not been decided for sure yet. I've never been to the area across the road so I can't comment on what it's like. If and when I hear some more info from Mark about this I'll post it.

    Peace, Mark

  11. Hey Aaron,

Glad to read that you'll be able to make it for the Rose Garland & Harvard Mouse show. It should be lots of fun. I'm excited for my drummer Tim - he's a huge Deadhead, and a good friend of Chuck's, and I think he'll have lots of fun drumming with Rose Garland.

I'll be playing with Dave Scully as part of a duo at the CTMF. He's one of the guitar players from Harvard Mouse and long-time friend of mine. It will be a new experience for both of us, and a chance for me to try out some of my original material. We currently play the occasional original song with Harvard Mouse, but at this point it's mainly covers ... lots of Dead mixed in with some other tasty songs.

I'm looking forward to the May 8 show and to the CTMF, and I'll see you at both of them. Look for the older long-haired dancing dude with a grin on his face ... :: :: ::

    Peace, Mark
