  1. I must say that The Shins "Wincing The Night Away" has earned some props too.
  2. Mike, you equate greatness with clean picked notes? What about Page's riffs? Plus, blues is best when it's sloppy.
  3. I agree Ollie, image is really important and always has been. Look at Elvis, Buddy Holly or Roy Orbison. All created lasting and strong images. The Who were very aware of their image, or lackthereof, in the middle part of the Mod movement, so they started to mod it up to gain a more immediate fanatic fanbase.
  4. Very generous Basher, but Wii's are sold-out everywhere and you probably could make a tidy profit if you put it up on eBay.
  5. And reunions of any era further prooves that history repeats itself. We of younger generations have been conditioned at a young age to accept that 50's and early 60's rock & roll acts did nostalgia tours, performing with a few original (re: surviving) band members and often pared with other geriatric artitsts on the multi-bill amphitheatre or casino concert circuit: The Dave Clark Five with The Hollies and special guest Gerry and the Pacemakers etc... Why is it any different when one of our hero bands reunites? Sure, music and pop culture relevance of late 60's and 70's bands resonates far longer and stronger than 50's bands not named Elvis, but these artists are not immune to falling into the same trappings as rock's founding fathers.
  6. I don't think reunion shows discriminate era-wise. What's left of The Drifters is still touring and do we need another Chubby Checker/Gary U.S. Bonds double-bill? However, jazz and blues artists seem to be immune to the reunion bug, mabe because they don't retire or lose relevance... and their genres aren't youth based.
  7. Of course I loved my TSOOL concert at this year's NXNE, but not as much as the other two I mentioned. Single of the Year: "Falling Slowly" - The Swell Season
  8. Album of the Year: Icky Thump - The White Stripes Runner Up: Once Soundtrack - music by The Swell Season Concert of the Year: The Arcade Fire @ Massey Hall Runners Up: The White Stripes @ The Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto The Swell Season @ The Danforth Music Hall, Toronto
  9. Indeed. Those teeth have a life of their own.
  10. Looking back, most of Live Aid is laughable and dated - just check out The Boomtown Rats if you need proof. However, Queen's performance transcends the 80's, which is not an easy feat given the cheese and crap factor permeating through that decade. Their Aid gig was magical, really (other than the close-ups of Freddie's horrific teeth).
  11. Musicians are like boxers: They never retire for long.
  12. I agree, but don't forget that Winwood was in his late teens when he played on Electric Ladyland and was in The Spencer Davis Group at age 15. He should look like hell, but unlike Robert Plant and Bill Wyman, Steve still looks like a man.
  13. I don't like Queen, but their Live Aid performance is one of the all-time best one-offs in the history of music festivals.
  14. One of the Zeppelin reunion opening acts ain't too bad either: Pete Townshend.
  15. I love the short hair too. BTW Lynnie, my Vicki thought the front of your "crisis-causing" cut looked good. However, she did not like the back at all. She loves your newest look too!
  16. I'm listening to the upcoming first single on the new Supergrass album "Diamond Hoo Ha Man". It's good, but so are Supergrass (one of the best power-pop bands that no one talks about): http://www.myspace.com/supergrass
  17. Environmentally cognizant with her hybrid and insensitive towards the handicapped. Quite a dichotomy.
  18. Another reason why the Leafs will never win the Cup:
  19. Once received two nominations in the movie soundtrack categories at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Well done and deserved.
  20. I don't have a mark on my finger since I've only been married just over a year.
  21. If that really is Lynn's new haircut in Booche's avatar, I'm taking my ring off and flying to Winnipeg.
  22. I was referring in part to Booche's wife getting a mullet haircut and thus his rediscovery of batchelorhood.
  23. Suddenly Booche is minus a wife and an aunt.
  24. For the record, I think she's a good actress, even if this movie was pretty bad.
