  1. I watched that episode. It was excellent. Beck fucking smoked on guitar and was the perfect guy to play in that British blues supergroup. Van Morrison was great too as was Tom. I loved listening to Tom sling insults and tell stories about the era.

    Happy Birthday

I don't really know if there is a heaven or a hell, but I do believe in a person's soul, and Chris' is alive and well to all that it touched.
  3. Of course he's arrogant: He's a guitarist and a lead singer.
  4. I'm really excited and proud of you. I'm a card-carrying urbanist and love visionaries like you that battle to rejuvenate downtowns. Not many municipalities like hearing this about their town: "You've got a beautiful downtown and it's dead." The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto (although Danforth is a thriving street) has done exceptionally well since it was renovated almost two years ago. I hope a similar thing happens with your venture and that its success spills over into making Welland's downtown thrive once again. And another thing: Go to city council meetings and fight for the town.

    Tavares?

He kinda reminds me of Marc Savard without the weaselness.
  6. I don't know what an Ekoostic Hookah is, but have fun anyway.
  7. It's not what I was getting at. It's about vibe and how it relates to Weirdness' criteria. I know you didn't like Norah and I know that Ryan kicked ass when you saw him.

    Tavares?

It always matters who you play with. That great line in London from last year and the year before will probably see all three turn into big NHL stars.

    Audacity Help

AD, I thought you were talking about your audacious personality?

    Tavares?

I dont agree with that. He's going to be a top pick in the draft because his potential upside is huge. Exactly, just like potenital of almost all the quality power-forwards that get drafted. Few really have staggeringly high junior points numbers. I realize Tavares isn't a power-forward, but the kid has alwasys had a nose for the net. He's also no pussy either.
  11. MMJ and Arcade Fire blow peoples minds without plugging-in. The movie Once (which I mentioned earlier) is almost entirely acoustic live performances and it's probably the best "musical" (although it's not a musical in the traditional sense) I've ever seen.
  12. Most if not all of these artists produce music of the low-intensity variety. I wouldn't expect anything but a mellow night from Cat Power, Norah, Iron & Wine, the current Ryan Adams incarnation, Will Oldham, Bright Eyes etc... I'm going to The Swell Season on Friday and I won't be standing and rocking and neither will the rest of the audience. I do hope to be enchanted at an equal level as the movie Once, from which this duo starred.
  13. Yes, they do use computer for backgrounds and the like, but The Iron Giant was for sure hand-drawn. Incidently, Miyazaki's films are still 80% hand-drawn.

    Tavares?

I went to a game in Oshawa a couple of years ago - Kingston vs the fucking Generals. The crowd was horrifying.

    Tavares?

You can drink at OHL games in designated areas, but not in the stands, although you may be able to get away with it in Oshawa.
  16. If you haven't seen it yet, check out Brad Bird's late 90's animated masterpiece The Iron Giant (based on a poem by Ted Hughes). It's one of the best films of the 90's IMO. Bird directed The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The Iron Giant is done in the old drawn animated style instead of computer-animation like Pixar:

    30 Rock

I'm not a Tina Fey fan, but I think I may seek out this show on DVD. I liked Tina's work on the film Mean Girls - she made even Lindsay Lohan seem likable. I disliked her Weekend Update segments, but I do believe her current show is probably worth checking out.
  18. He's playing well tonight. Maybe he got read the article.
  19. An interesting article from Dave Feschuk in today's Star: Garbajosa story unlikely to have a happy ending There were long faces in the Raptors locker room Wednesday night and the chief brooders weren't the guys who clanked the shots and coughed up the turnovers in a loss to the Utah Jazz. The saddest eyes belonged to a guy who didn't play a tick, Jorge Garbajosa. A season after being mythologized as a team-first glue guy, the Spaniard appeared well on his way to becoming a woe-is-me, locker-room bring-down. Garbajosa, still struggling to find his game in the wake of the horrific March injury that fractured his left fibula and shredded his ankle, hasn't played in the Raptors' past two games. Though he started 60 games last year and contributed gamely to a club that won 47 games, he hasn't shown an ounce of evidence that he remains the indispensable force of a season ago. Not surprisingly, he hasn't played more than 13 minutes in a single outing this season. And he hasn't exactly embraced his role as an end-of-the-bench fixture with towel-waving enthusiasm. Instead, he has sulked. It's hard to imagine the story ending well if the pattern continues. Having Garbajosa hang his head isn't helping anyone. Alas, the solution isn't obvious. The surgery once recommended by the club's medical staff – the surgery that Garbajosa, acting on advice from the Spanish side of Atlantic, opted against so he could play in September's European championships in his hometown of Madrid – isn't an imminent option. Doctors, after all, are often loath to cut open patients who claim to be bereft of pain and symptom free, as Garbajosa insists he is. Still, if his game seems more tentative than it did last year, perhaps it's because his left ankle, when he removed his sneakers the other day, looked to be the size of a small cantaloupe, bloated like the rest of his lower left leg. And perhaps it's because he is well aware that his fibula, when last x-rayed around the beginning of training camp, still hadn't fully healed. On a practice court in Italy, Bryan Colangelo, the general manager, told reporters that there was, according to doctors, a "99 per cent chance" that the bone would not mend without further surgery. So his leg's likely still broken. The infamous $1 million insurance policy that allowed him to play in the European championship is up on Nov. 30. And after that, since insuring him looks to club insiders like a prohibitively expensive proposition, the team will be on the hook for the approximately $8 million remaining on his contract. And that can't thrill management. It's a mess that begs revisiting his summertime decision. Why was it so important for him to take the court when his country had already won an automatic berth into the 2008 Beijing Games? You can make an argument that Garbajosa put his NBA career at risk, and went against his team's vehement wishes, in the name of his ego. He wanted to be a part of a home-soil victory. He wanted to be one of the kings of Madrid for a month. He got at least part of his wish (and a silver medal). Now his career is at a standstill, perhaps as a direct result, and the Raptors are the lesser for it. If you're a Raptors fan, it's hard to embrace him for putting his team's concerns so far behind his own and his country's. It's not that athletic patriotism isn't fun and stirring and often admirable. But given the circumstances, given his injury, given that the tournament didn't come with Olympic implications, it was, then and now, difficult to see the wisdom in Garbajosa's insistence. If you'd like to glimpse the slump-shouldered consequence, keep an eye on the end of the bench tonight.
  20. Was he also wearing a Queen's jacket?
  21. I'm starting to really like this Bruins team, especially after last night's win.
  22. I know he was routinely hated around here, but never to this lowest of low levels. Some of these are incredible: http://www.blogto.com/city/2007/11/another_one_bites_the_dust_stephen_hurlbut_gone_from_citytv/
  23. Rosie and her hero Barbra Streisand MCing or how about Wavy Gravy?
