  1. For a diner/greasy-spoon breakfast or lunch, go to the original Frans at the north-west corner of Yonge and College. There are lots of great restaurants just north of College on Yonge. I'll get some more names for you if you want?
  2. I've only heard a few tracks from the new album, but they sounded really f-ing good. The reviews have been raves, so I must get this album, probably on Friday.
  3. Hey Brad, head south on Yonge to just north of Yonge and Gerrard (one block south of College). The place is Ginger and the food is Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese. Get the chicken noodle soup or any of the beef/chicken/shrimp on rice dishes. The spring rolls are delicious too. It's very affordable (even cheap). It's not too funky, but in just two years, there are now 3 or 4 of these restaurants in the city and all because the food kicks ass. BTW, it's on the east side of Yonge, across from the above-ground parking lot.
  4. It looks like I'll be going - my friend has an extra ticket. I was at Cuff's last CD release party in 2005 and loved every second of the show... and album. I bought Booche their last album for Christmas last year... twice, it's that good. I'm looking forward to hearing the new lineup.
  5. Have a great day Gateaux!
  6. It's a good thing I'm giving Bob my moe. t-shirt after his interview.
  7. Welcome to the world of the living, Greg. And to think that I now have a full beard for the first time in my life. Can I borrow a tie-dye shirt anyone?
  8. Ironically, I just saw Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova in concert on Friday - they are the stars of the film Once that I've been raving about. My review is almost done. BTW, they call themselves The Swell Season.
  9. The Leafs are the funniest comedy the CBC has produced since Season III of SCTV.
  10. I remember listing to The Fan's Prime Time show and they alluded to a Raptors writer that rips the team, but is the only one that has the guts to show his face in the scrums the next day. That writer is Feschuk. Why don't you like him? I know he's a bit pompous and at times too sure of himself (and a fan of his own writings). However, he's on more than he's off. He called the team cowards both for their disgraceful inside game and their do nothing attitude when TJ got hammered in their last game versus Memphis. Can't disagree with that.
  11. I know this, Feschuk is one of the Raps best beat writers and is their ballsiest critic and I believe him.
  12. The Frames are still The Frames. The Swell Season is the duo, but a couple of Frames members sit in for some songs.
  13. In the film, Marketa and Glen go into a music store and Glen shows Marketa the chords to "Falling Slowly" - she follows along on the piano. They barely know each other but they perform the song in the store. It's an incredibly moving scene.
  14. I'm buying the DVD. By comparison to the recent Iron and Wine concert at The Danforth Music Hall, last night's show was far more engaging and intimate, plus the sound was perfect - which wasn't the case for Sam Beam and company back in September.
  15. Youtube has footage from this tour. The place was Sold Out and the crowd was excellent. I'll write the review tonight while I'm at work.
  16. Did you read the article? His leg hasn't healed, plus the organization is pissed that Garbo chose to keep playing for Spain against the advise of the Raptors doctors; and Spain had already qualified for the Olympics, so he further injured his leg for nothing.
  17. Tonight's show was incredible. I'll submit my review in the next day or two. See them if you can.
  18. Season III is the best of them all. Al Swearengen is the best TV villian ever (or is he a villian?). Deadwood is the best western I've ever seen, including films by Hawks, Ford, Peckinpah, Sturges and Anthony Mann. BTW, the real Al is third from the right (and yes, this a picture from the real Gem Theatre Bar):
  19. I know there has been a couple of threads about this flick, but I guess this is bit of a roll-call for the concert tomorrow in Toronto. The Once DVD comes out in December and I know that any of you that rent the film out of curiosity, praise or hype will wish that you went to this show. I can't wait. The film's stars, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, call themselves The Swell Season and have been on all the late night shows this year performing "Falling Slowly", one of the most beautiful duets I've heard in a long time. The music and performances from Once haven't left my consciousness since I saw the film last month. In fact, I think about the songs every fucking day. I'll be submitting a review (of the movie and the concert) on Saturday.
  20. It was a bad game, but at least the right team won.
  21. I had the game on at work and couldn't wait for the Raptors game to start, which was far more interesting. I don't if I've ever seen a softer big team than the Leafs.
  22. His insurance is up at the end of the month.
