  1. The game was their to take given the Nets home "field" stands were half empty and Vince wasn't into the game early on - until the 4th quarter. Bosh's rusty play and the Raps continual love affair with the three sunk them in the fourth. There's no way this team will be consistantly cold shooting-wise this year.
  2. I've had that movie on my radar for years. I gotta watch it soon. I love Ron Perlman's attitude towards being in foreign films: see Del Toro's modern vampire classic Cronos. Oh yeah, has anyone seen Guillermo Del Toro's other great horror film (it's more of a dusty ghost story with soul) The Devil's Backbone. Fucking brilliant Spanish movie.
  3. The original Robert Wise version is a horror masterpiece.
  4. I actually re-watched Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban on Halloween night. My friend is hooked on the books and wanted to watch the film for the first time. I think that particular interpretation is the most interesting and entertaining of the films so far - especially when compared to the excellent books.
  5. Go nuts: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094491/#comment
  6. I've heard that Hostel is dreadful. Too bad because I really liked Eli Roth's first film Cabin Fever. Tim Burton is a great flawed director. For every masterpiece like Big Fish and Ed Wood, he puts out a Planet Of The Apes and the terribly disappointing and predictable Sleepy Hollow. Note to Burton: DO NOT cast famous actors for every crucial part because you know that they will surface at key moments later on - see Miranda Richardson.
  7. Who? Nick Stahl who plays Ben Hawkins? I don't think so. He'd be too young to be in that movie and I just did quick IMDb check and his first movie came out in 1991. Stahl was in Sin City and was the lead character in Terminator III.
  8. Carnivale is a fantastic and fantastically creepy series. I love Clancy Brown's Brother Justin character. Adrienne Barbeau still has 'it' too. Gotta love Toby Huss (voice of Cotton Hill and Kahn from King Of The Hill) as Felix 'Stumpy' Dreifuss - the girly show ring master.
  9. I gotta see Internal Affairs. I'm a fan of the film's stars Andy Lau and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. Asian cop and vigilante films kick ass.
  10. I'm not sure if you have a toaster oven, but if you do, cook the pita pizza on the toaster setting - hit the toaster switch twice - you should leave the pita on the pan too.
  11. The band set-up is inconsequential. He can adapt like very few can. I like him on his own. He's more innovative, intimate and heartbreaking when Lenny plays alone.
  12. I'd go with the split Five O'Clock Bells/Mo' Breau or the stellar double live release: Live At Bourbon Street. At least that's where I started and got me hooked. "Toronto", "My Funny Valentine" and McCoy Tyner's "Vision" are beautiful and dazzeling - the latter two songs are also on the live album and the split LP release. Oh yeah, Cabin Fever is freaking unreal, and a bit spooky.
  13. I don't have that one Brad, but I personally wouldn't start with Breau's earlier work - if you are looking for innovation and style. However, I'd love to hear his work with those Band-mates.
  14. I haven't watched the DVD yet. The mini-opra songs are good, surprisingly. Roger's vocals have been set lower in the mix and the opera has more of a live feel. Zak Starkey is excellent throughout. He did learn drums from Moon and worshipped the Loon as a kid, so it's refreshing to hear Zak on record with Pete for the first time. I agree with Chameleon that The Who should have packed it in, but not necessarily in the time-frame mentioned. They should have quit when Moon died, but since they didn't, then The Ox's foolish demise should have been their final death-nail.
  15. I'm all over this DVD. Citytv did a Breau feature (on one of their farmed out entertainment shows) last week, with Bachman waxing poetic on his brief time learning from the master. Andy Summers was also in the feature and his interview was really insightful, especially when Summers admitted that he'd rather see Lenny than Hendrix. The piece showed some great video clips of Lenny spanning many years. Just when I thought I'd gotten a handle on Breau's legacy (I own the Breau documentary), Citytv comes out with new video clips that hit me square in the jaw like a perfectly thrown left hook. Lenny's still the greatest.
  16. Enjoy. I couldn't turn it off or even skip tracks. It has a nice balance of songs and is well paced.
  17. I must admit that the acoustic/Townshend sung songs are pretty darn good. So is the mini-opera half of the album. So far, I'm humbly surprised. I wanted to trash this thing.
  18. If zombies are real, I'm hanging out with Ash or Shaun.
  19. This companion DVD to their live album came out today. I'm watching it right now and it's fucking fantastic. If you want to "almost" experience one of the best live bands (and best bands period) playing today, get this DVD. This film is a better representation of their live prowess than is the CD due to the visual experience, plus it's beautifully produced. The audio is mixed perfectly too. I'll write a real review tomorrow night at work. Get this sucker immediately.
  20. I just bought this album (along with MMJ's DVD Okonokos) and gave the first six songs a listen in the car. My initial impression is that "Endless Wire" sounds dated. The vocals are too high up in the mix and the album is too clean sounding. The songs are actually pretty Who-like, but the bass is understandably and noctiably down in the mix. Zak Starkey sounds like a polished Moon, which definately adds some fuel to the firey parts. Pete sounds great however. His guitar crunches and his acoustic work (heard throughout) is fantastic. His vocals are strong too. I'll submit a real review soon, when I listen to the other part of the album - the 2nd half that's described as a "mini-opera". I think if you are craving some glory days Who with a modern twist, Sweden's The Soundtrack Of Our Lives is where you should look before you pick up this watered-down effort.
  21. The Leafs got lucky with the soft calls. Brutal refereeing in the first period.
  22. And the Raps could get Doug Christie back too (he's looking for work). He led by example, putting the team above personal stats.
  23. Man, now Toronto could wait it out and get Rose, Oakley and JYD back on the cheap.
  24. Get your black arm-band out Chameleon. Rose was set to make 16.9 million this year - I believe his current contract was sealed by Rob Babcock.
  25. I'm kinda surprised the Scots didn't come up with fried coke first.
