  1. I got this from the MMJ website. It looks pretty interesting. 429 RECORDS PAYS TRIBUTE TO 'THE BAND' WITH "ENDLESS HIGHWAY: THE MUSIC OF THE BAND" Jack Johnson, My Morning Jacket, Lee Ann Womack, Death Cab For Cutie, Roseanne Cash, Jakob Dylan, Gomez, Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers, John Hiatt, Joe Henry, Bruce Hornsby, Guster, Blues Traveler, Josh Turner, Government Mule and Others Reinterpret Legendary Group’s Classic Songs Release Date: January 30, 2007 OCTOBER 11, 2007, SANTA MONICA, CA—Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel—aka THE BAND— inarguably placed alongside a shortlist of groups considered “rock royaltyâ€, will be paid a long-overdue, much-deserved tribute with ENDLESS HIGHWAY: THE MUSIC OF THE BAND—a collection of their compositions lovingly reworked by a diverse group of artists who share a love of The Band and are highly regarded in their own right . The project will be released by 429 Records (a unit of the Savoy Label Group), in January of 2007. The stellar collection features reinterpretations of classic BAND songs by Jack Johnson, Lee Ann Womack, Death Cab For Cutie, Gomez, Roseanne Cash, My Morning Jacket and many others. ENDLESS HIGHWAY: THE MUSIC OF THE BAND is in stores January 30th. Executive Produced by Stu Fine and Steve Vining, ENDLESS HIGHWAY is a showcase for musicians of many different genres for whom The Band represent a pinnacle of creative musicianship. Says Stu Fine: “The more we talked about the idea, of finding an artist whose songs transcended time, space and generations, who artists loved and respected enough to want to cover, THE BAND kept showing up at the top of each of our wish lists.†When The Band released their first album, MUSIC FROM BIG PINK, they had already spent over a year touring with Ronnie Hawkins (as The Hawks) and Bob Dylan on the intensely polarizing world tour that introduced audiences to the “electric†side of Dylan. It was a series of performances that were astonishing in their unwavering musical vision and intensity. The Band materialized out of the ashes of The Hawks upon an unsuspecting musical community with a collection of compositions unlike anything released in pop music before. Rob Bowman states in his notes to the compilation THE BAND: A MUSICAL HISTORY, “…more than any other band in the history of popular music they were able to internalize the main tributaries of American roots musics to the point where they syncretically fused them into a timeless musical stew that, both linguistically and sonically, encapsulates the mythical essence of some long-lost sense of America.†The challenge for the artists participating in ENDLESS HIGHWAY was how to approach a body of work where more often than not, the word used to describe a particular song was “masterpiece.†My Morning Jacket drummer Patrick Hallahan comments to Billboard.com on the recording of “It Makes No Difference†with Levon Helm in Helm’s studio in Woodstock, NY: “We were very aware of the potential pain he would feel from hearing that song recorded by someone else. (Late Band members) Rick Danko and Richard Manuel were amongst the purest musicians to ever grace the art, and to conjure up their loss was something we feared and respected." Adds Steve Vining, President of 429 Records/SLG: It’s been gratifying to work with so many established artists but also the young bands who have such an appreciation for The Band’s legacy. Putting together this project has been a labor of love for all involved and I am happy the music reflects that.†The artist and track listing for ENDLESS HIGHWAY is as follows: Jack Johnson “I Shall Be Released†The Allman Brothers “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down†Death Cab For Cutie “Rocking Chair†My Morning Jacket “It Makes No Difference†Lee Ann Womack “The Weight†Jakob Dylan “Whispering Pines†Gomez “Up On Cripple Creek†Bruce Hornsby “King Harvest†Rosanne Cash “Unfaithful Servant†Blues Traveler “Rag Mama Rag†Joe Henry “Bessie Smith†Guster “This Wheel’s On Fire†Widespread Panic “Chest Fever†John Hiatt & North Mississippi Allstars “Ain’t No More Cane†Jackie Greene “Look Out Cleveland†Animal Liberation Orchestra (Jack Johnson’s touring band) “Ophelia†Steve Reynolds “Stage Fright†Josh Turner “When I Paint My Masterpiece†Government Mule “The Shape I’m In†429 Records is a unit of the Savoy Label Group (SLG). 2. It's all about the songs and to a great extent, the band's honesty.
  3. Coooooool...........Raptors TV should air it! If you have internet access during it please post the details as it in progress. Do you know what draft spot you have yet and do you know which game you would pick 1st over-all? And I hope that as a bonus, there's coverage of Basher's Vegoose ticket buying adventures.
  4. I have a DLP - Toshiba. It has better picture quality, generally, than LCD's, plus no potential burn-in problems. DLP's have better and deeper blacks than LCD's too.
  5. They're a good retro Haight-Asbury hippy type band. I'd like to hear their stuff live.
  6. The country that is the most worried about the escalating North Korean nuke program is Japan. If they ever decide on launching an offensive, the first country that will get attacked is Japan.
  7. Roommate Mike: "Hey... you're drinking my beer"! Nisker: "It's a party. Get used to it".
  8. And it is a "shtick". Her roots - back in the 90's - was indie rock with a firm lean towards avant-garde. However, in the late 90's, pushing 32 and seeing no commercial future, she moved to Europe and calculatingly retooled her "act". I dislike her music then and especially now, but at least her former Toronto band had a great guitarist and bassist.
  9. Debates are fun and hopefully thought provoking, but I cetainly don't have the energy, gumption or desire to get into one every hour of every day. Hey zero, I noticed in an earlier topic that you mentioned euro-dancehall shock diva Peaches, the formally lead singer of the defunct obnoxious Toronto indie band Fancypants Hoodlum? Are you a fan of Ms Nisker?
  10. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Damn, I missed the premiere on TMN.
  12. I loved Invasion. It was better than Lost (which I'm PVRing tonight since I gotta work and I'd rather watch the hockey game). But the biggest premiere is on Saturday. Season III of Battlestar Galactica.
  13. It kinda gives me the creeps.
  14. This interview probably interests two or three people on this board - the few that are hip to Television's genius. Anyway, any Television article is worth reading in my books, especially one featuring Jeff Tweedy's one-time guitar teacher. Richard Lloyd is a brilliant guitarist by the by: http://www.chartattack.com/DAMN/2006/08/3001.cfm
  15. Morrow, Lindros and Modano are going to hate Ribeiro.
  16. I read the first three, then decided that, although good fantasy reads, Robert Jordan should be shot for milking fans into buying a series without an ending.
  17. They'll be doing a lot of new tunes, which excites me since Pete is my favourite guitarist/songwriter ever. I haven't witnessed new Townshend material since his last solo tour in 1992. Of course, what you'll see and hear can't compare to their heyday.
  18. Happy Birthday Bob, wherever you are.
  19. Seriously though, Townshend's playing gets better and more interesting with age, unlike most of his contemporaries from the 60's... that are still alive.
  20. Go to the show and see one of the greatest rock guitarists ever: Roger Daltrey
