  1. Rome's on Buffalo 550. It's a stronger signal than The Fan. I can even get 550 in Kingston. I don't really listen to rock radio, so I wasn't aware Hayes jumped ship.
  2. I usually flip between Jim Rome and Chuck's show. I can't stand Mike Hogan, especially that fucking laugh of his - which he liberally unleashes on anecdotes that aren't funny. Almost as bad as the laugh is Hogan's use and over-use of the adjective: "Wow".
  3. I really hate the Chuck/Barb weekly segments. She drives me nuts. All she talks about is her kids and fluff. I realize that fluff is why she's on the Fan, but the kids talk has to go.
  4. Have a great remainder of the night!
  5. I like Chuck. He still has a way to go in order to being a good daily radio host - especially in the way he handles interviews - but Chuck is getting better. I like his Raptors broadcasts.
  6. The pathetic Clippers put the Hawks to shame. Sure they made the playoffs last year, but no NBA team can touch their "Worst Ever Franchise" label. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Clippers
  7. She acts and talks like a baby, so none of this is surprising. I hope Raine and Chantal ground her.
  8. Well, they aren't a jam band and stick to structural improv within the song. And it seems that disc two has two songs that exceed eleven minutes and one over nine.
  9. I've listened to disc one and it rocks hard. Lay Low is a modern day southern rock guitar anthem.
  10. Write a review of the show Roller. By the way, on a High Def TV set with 5.1 surround speakers, that MMJ Austin City Limits show is one of the best shows that program's produced in years and years - same with The Lips performance from this year. Downloading it from video off of the Youtube server using crappy computer speakers is hardly an ideal situation for critique.
  11. I always thought the end of Off The Record needed a guitar solo. It meanders with no release on Z. Done live, Jim inserts some ripping solo bursts, making the song a concert highlight. It's one of the only MMJ songs I think they got wrong on a studio album.
  12. And... the last time the Jacket played Toronto was at the soul-sucking Guvernment... and they still put on a heck of a show. The Opera House gig from 2004 ranks in my top shows ever.
  13. I guess they aren't your thing then Deeps. Jim uses reverb because he's insecure about his singing voice. As a live band, I've rarely seen better. The albums are fantastic too. Again, if you didn't like them live, then forget about ever seeing them again.
  14. I love "I Will Sing You Songs". I can't wait til "Off The Record", a song that never really does it in the studio, but live it can rip the rug out from any dancing hippy thanks to Jim's slashing solos in the coda.
  15. I just bought MMJ's new live album Okonokos (it dropped today). I'm four songs in and it's fantastic... so far. That's it for now. I'm writing the review tonight and will submit it sometime tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. Disc One: 1. Wordless Chorus 2. It Beats 4 U 3. Gideon 4. One Big Holiday 5. I Will Sing You Songs 6. Lowdown 7. The Way That He Sings 8. What A Wonderful Man 9. Off The Record 10. Golden 11. Lay Low Disc Two: 1. Dondante 2. Run Thru 3. At Dawn 4. Xmas Curtain 5. O Is The One That Is Real 6. I Think I'm Going To Hell 7. Steam Engine 8. Dancefloors 9. Anytime 10. Mahgeeta
  16. My Morning Jacket - Okonokos (Live) - just released today!
  17. You know, M. Ward doesn't get enough praise on this board. Fantastic imaginative guitarist and an even better singer/songwriter. Iron & Wine does not suck either. And, what about Bonnie Prince Billy aka Will Oldham? Check out the beautiful tone and mood he sets on I See A Darkness . Johnny Cash covered the title track on American III: Solitary Man with Bonnie Will Oldham doing some soulful background singing.
  18. That incident and critic are mentioned in the above article.
  19. How was Doyle Bramhall? His career seems to be coming around again after years of abuse.
  20. If you want better drummer-led band choices, give Tony "Bad-Ass Motherfucker" Williams and Jack DeJohnette a whirl.

    The Mad Dash

Bill was my first year radio broadcast teacher at Ryerson. He was a pretty good teacher, but I've never seen the show that made him regionally famous.
  22. I gotta say that the Hip's new single is really catchy. The video is even getting airplay on Much, something that hasn't happened on that station in at least 5 years (excluding on certain retro programs). However, the video is annoying.
  23. Going Coastal is a fairly consistent good MuchMusic program. I'm sure they did a good job covering the Evolve Festival. The show repeats later in the wee hours of the morning.
  24. Yes, as far as I know. I used to live there.
  25. You'd do yourself a disservice not to listen to beautful Hope Sandoval's work in Mazzy Star. I had it on in the car today and it was fucking fantastic.
