  1. I thought you were going to mention something by the Disco Biscuits?
  2. Or Obama going to one of his aids: "See what you can get for this thing at a used CD store".
  3. Well, women of any age hate Rush let alone grannies, but point taken. However, I stand by my "lily white" comment. I like k-os and whether you like his album or not, Joyful Rebellion was one of the most significant hip hop albums ever produced in Canada. I'd include something by Dream Warriors or even something contemporary from two rising stars Kardinal Offishall and/or Saukrates.
  4. Still though, I can't imagine Obama slapping that Canadian mix CD on at a party: "Hold on Joe. I've got the next CD. Skip to that Parachute Club song".
  5. Awful song, but at least The Tea Party, Nelly Furtado and Our Lady Peace didn't make the cut. Unfortunately, Diana Krall did. I wish the list was more subversive and included Stan Rogers definitive version of "Barrett's Privateers".
  6. So, 1 out of how many? I'd have at least something from k-os, even if he is a closeted creep.
  7. Was it not the CBC/CBC2 audience that compiled the list? The CBC audience is whiter than the Gumble brothers.
  8. It's kinda disgusting that no song was deemed worthy from the rather healthy Canadian hip hop scene. CBC3 should have compiled the list instead of the CBC's lily white audience, who's majority is made up of grannies wired to the CBC in their retirement homes.
  9. The rest of the world is not disinterested though. The ratings were very impressive worldwide last time out. I got the tickets for Christmas. I do love those Canuck jerseys.
  10. So am I, but the US has sent their B-team and seem disinterested in general. Cetainly folks in the US won't be watching, or care, just like the last Classic, which will help Canada. It also helps that March Madness starts rolling around then. Anyway, I'm going to five games. See you there?
  11. Keep and eye on Brett Lawrie. He was the highest ever Canadian drafted (16th overall in the '08 draft) and even made it to the Bigs last year as an 18-year-old with the Brewers.
  12. And does anyone enjoy it when a jazz instrumentalist composes songs using a vocalist to flesh things out a la Pat Metheny? The result is worse than most average-sung jam songs.
  13. The Allmans and Dead shouldn't be lumped in with the rest of this lot, historically speaking. And I'd love to mine Esau/Greg's "traditional" music record collection.
  14. Paul Reddick is a terrific storyteller. Good for him.
  15. I'm looking forward to the prequel series called Caprica already in development.
  16. The second half of the final year begins tonight. 10 more episodes remain.
  17. Even thought Jack White beat the manhood out of Jason Stollsteimer, this show is too good to pass up. I love their first two albums - blasts of hard-driving Detroit guitar rock - and I haven't met a soul who doesn't like their breakthrough single (and Rescue Me theme) "C'mon C'mon." Their new album, 'Love, Hate and Then There's You, drops in early February. I'm not overly surprised that they are playing a small venue since it's been close to 5 years since their last album came out.
  18. It looks like Space is airing all the first 10 episodes of Season IV starting at noon. Here's today's schedule: http://www.spacecast.com/Schedule.aspx
  19. You don't need to be a sci-fi geek like BradM (or me, or Booche) to like this series. Before the new episode, Space is having a mini-marathon tonight of some of the first 10 episodes from this season plus some wrap-up features and specials. I'm all over this. The new episode starts at 10pm. I'm going to miss this bleak and masterful series. The drumming-led part of the opening theme has been ripped-off repeatedly over the years, but nothing tops the original:
  20. This is all pretty sad news. The Wrath of Khan is one of the great sci-fi films ever and I loved Ricardo in the Naked Gun. Anyone jacked to see the new reboot of The Prisoner on AMC, other than Brad and myself (hopefully carried on a HD channel like City)? Patrick McGoohan endorsed the new series, which is good enough for me.
  21. I was in a pub in Montreal a few years back and my wife heads over to the coin jukebox and puts on Dinah-Mo-Hum. God bless her soul, my wife's that is.
  22. Tyler Mulcahy's parents should have taken the keys away from him due to his past driving offenses.
