  1. One of my favourite bands ever. Every album sounds different so you can't go wrong with any and all of them: I think they are all 4 or 5 star records. I love 5 of their 6 studio albums and admire Get Behind Me Satan. That being said, I think #1 is De Stijl: a folk-blues masterpiece and their best from beginning to end. #2 Icky Thump #3 Elephant (their breakthrough contains most of their more rocking anthems) #4 The White Stripes (raw and uncompromising blues and garage rock) #5 White Blood Cells (their second biggest album with lots of mid-tempo rockers and at least four or five of their most popular songs) #6 Get Behind Me Satan (lots of piano, but it does have nice acoustic diversions like the straight bluegrass "Little Ghost" and the Zeppelin I-esque "Instinct Blues"). However, I do flip my list from time to time since I like 'em all for different reasons. Also, Jack plays far more lead on the later albums like Elephant and Icky Thump.

    Ender's Game

BTW, Terry Goodkind's The Magician's First Rule is now a TV series produced by Sam Raimi. It airs in syndication in either October or November.
  3. Rolen has been terrible at the plate, but he's the best defensive third baseman the Jays have ever had.
  4. Wowie Zowie! The Mod Club is a small venue, and a pretty good one at that.
  5. Not according to today's Star. The propane facility was built 3 years ago in the middle of a residential area; they often are due to demand.
  6. Natty, there are people hurt and one fireman may be dead as I write.
  7. A report just in that a firefighter has no vital signs at the scene. I hope he pulls through. I fell asleep last night watching the Olympics and woke up at 3:45 with a loud boom and my apartment windows shaking. I live quite a ways from the explosion - I live in the east and it's easily a 30-40 minute drive north west. I knew something was up, but the beers took their toll and I went to bed. Shocking news.
  8. I think that bunch is slightly better than Kathy Griffin's D List.
  9. Tabler was a utility/role player. Guzman had 2 1/2 good years and Liriano was a decent fielder and only played 3 seasons with the Jays and his highest batting average was .264. Did Moseby ever do anything meaningful? Sure he made those diving catches, but they were often in the 8th in a blow-out.
  10. You can put Olerud and Bell into the A Pool and the other guys can go into the C Pool.
  11. The Taste of the Danforth. Get off at the Broadview subway station and proceed to eat and drink your face off.
  12. I'm going on vacation to NY State soon and I can't budget the festival in without the press pass - AD knows this. $65 combined for the festival not including transportation costs doesn't make sense given my impending vacation, plus I wouldn't go out of my way in general to see any of the bands on the bill (although the fest admittedly is for a good cause) outside of Plants and Animals and Wintersleep, but both are more out of curiosity. I wanted to go more out of the experience of covering a festival since I've never done it before. I'll have more chances though.
  13. It's not my call regarding the free media pass. I wish I knew that Grad Club and Facebook info earlier. I would have passed it on to the appropriate people. Have fun.
  14. That's a tough list to crack. Pete Rose must be around #12 then and Steinbrenner is in the Top 20. A-Rod is moving up the charts in a hurry.
  15. If you meet any of the organizers, tell them thanks for nothing. They never got back to the SP editor after repeated emails over the course of three weeks.
  16. If you can bring Cito back, why not get Gord Ash back too for GM?
  17. Shouldn't you be on your way to The Island, AD? Hentgen is one of my favourite Jays because of his dedication and loyalty let alone his solid pitching for the team (a Cy Young is a Cy Young). He still bleeds blue and white too. He's not much different in his love of the Jays than Alvin Williams was and Bosh is with their love of the Raptors.
  18. Pat Hentgen recently said that a closer has no business winning a Cy Young or even be considered as an MVP.
  19. True, but have you checked-out Stieb's complete games and innings pitched record, not to mention his ERA during his peak Jays time? Stieb had 103 complete games and had an overall career 3.44 ERA, which is impressive given he finished a lot of games. Stieb would have an even greater win-loss total and ERA if he didn't have to hand the ball off to pre-Henke aces like Bill Caudill, Roy Lee Jackson and Randy Moffitt.
  20. They wouldn't have won in 92 if Alomar didn't hit a 2-run homer off of Eckersley in the AL final. That hit was more impactful than Carter's bomb off of Wild Thing. The Phillies were done when WT came onto the mound.
  21. Yes he was. And he's the best clutch playoff hitter in Jays history. Just ask that greasy fuck Dennis Eckersley.
  22. Exactly, and I'd like to add it isn't about being a personal "favourite" Jay. Barfield was a good player and so was Gruber and The Shaker. But they don't belong in the Top 3 or even Top 5. There seems to be no love for Jimmy Key either. He was a dominant lefty back in the day. He may not be in my Top 3, but he at least deserves a mention. Following Stieb in the lineup gave teams lots of fits.
  23. The reviews in the papers and on-line for last night's "rented-gear" show at Massey Hall have been outstanding. Even a hard-to-please friend of mine fucking loved the show. Here's the setlist: "Loose" "Down On The Street" "1969" "I Wanna Be Your Dog" "TV Eye" "Real Cool Time" "No Fun" "1970" "Fun House/LA Blues" (or at least a jam that was LA Blues-esque) "Skull Ring" "Search And Destroy" "My Idea Of Fun" "I Got A Right" Encore: "Trollin'" "Little Electric Chair" "Little Doll" "I'm Fried"
  24. All I'm saying is that all eyes react differently to different kinds of lenses. I'm a big supporter of wearing contacts, but you have to be responsible when you wear them once you get the right lenses. Contacts have to sit perfectly in your eye to get good vision, not unlike when you wear glasses. Astigmatism adds problems to contact-wearers because that particular eye affliction relates to the eye's curvature - astigmatigmatic eyes are flatter, making it more difficult to fit certain kinds of contacts.
