  2. Re. Crossroads with the Karate Kid For my money, the best ever miming of performance on film by a non-guitar player was Sean Penn in Sweet and Lowdown. Throughout the movie, I was wondering "Is he or isn't he?" It turns out he wasn't, but he busted his as practicing and studying to look like he was.
  3. My wife is shocked that nothing by Yes has been posted.
  4. Good news, chief, glad to hear it.
  5. People are always so ready to assume the worst about Yoko
  6. For the most part , what people mostly view as Yoko's singing voice was only for the first few albums (Fly, Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band, the Unfinished Music series with John), subsequent albums tended towards a more orthodox Western vocal style. Of course, I prefer her earlier albums, found it a bit more interesting.
  7. Just curious, are we talking about songs that are complete gibberish (Closing theme for WKRP In Cincinnatti) or songs with actual lyrics but they don't make any sense (I Am The Walrus)?

  10. Slightly rumpled, but feeling pretty good that Jared can't spell
  11. I have Zooma, haven't picked up Thunder Thief yet but will. I saw him open for King Crimson a few years ago and I just got flattened. Anybody know exactly when and where he worked with Foo Fighters?

  13. I thought that was Cornwall ...
  14. Add to that Bob Dylan, as he wrote the song for Johnny Cash. I know, but did Dylan ever actually record his own version of it? I can't even find that on bootleg.
  15. Just past the midway point.
  16. #238 Favourite Hip-Hop Songs 1. Rosa Parks-Outkast 2. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five - The Message 3. De La Soul - Me, Myself and I 4. Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight 5. Talib Kweli - Get By (not my favourite, but one of my many favourites). 6. Public Enemy - By The Time I Get To Arizona
  17. Wanted Man - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (good job, topping Johnny Cash) and speaking of which ... Hurt - Johnny Cash
  18. #237 - Songs YOU played that drove your house nutzzzzz 1. Metallica - Ride the Lightning 2. Alice In Chains - Rooster 3. Huey Lewis and the News- I wanna new drug 4. Led Zeppelin - Dazed And Confused (live version from The Song Remains The Same)
  19. Some of these are barely a hair's breadth but I give the nod to the covers : War Pigs - Faith No More (the drums are better) The Boxer - Emmylou Harris w. The Whites Why Not Your Baby - Velvet Crush (original by Gene Clark, but the pedal steel in this version just pushes it over the top) Street Fighting Man - Rod Stewart (so close it might well be a tie) Who Loves The Sun - Teenage Fanclub She May Call You Up Tonight - Sid 'n' Susie (Matthew Sweet/Susannah Hoffs , original version by the Left Banke)
  20. No Elliot Randall on guitar ... then again, maybe they just can't hit the high harmonies anymore.
  21. Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower Well duh (Although the original is still great)
  22. Unfortunately for me, this version will always be associated in my mind with hearing somebody's painfully sincere and painfully 3/4 tone flat rendition of it at a Karaoke bar.
