Fucking shocked! I was just reading this week's RS article about the Hall of Fame ceremony, and how he couldn't make it, but there was no indication that he was that close to death. Fucking sucks!!!

The new owners are the same staff that was running the place the past few years while the previous owner was sick. So they are technically "new" but they also should have known about the sketchiness of the situation all along. They also posted back in January that they would start honouring coupons again in May, with no mention of the 50% restriction. The restriction that pisses me off most is that coupons can only be used on Wednesday and Thursday. People from all over the city bought coupons and to assume that we can all make it down to the market mid-week is asking a lot on top of everything else. If the new owners really want to establish some good faith I think they should allow people to use these coupons on any day of the week. There's a good thread in the Ottawa Foodie's which details this some more. It also includes allegations that their meat isn't quite as "local" as they claim. There's also a price comparison in that thread which shows how marked up their prices might be. I wish I could be as magnanimous about this as you are Dave. But I do agree that the staff at Brian's are excellent!

Lucky? I don't know about that. We have about $130 left on our coupon. That means we'll have to spend an additional $130 out of pocket to use the rest of the coupon. That's almost twice what we paid for it! Yes it's nice to have the option but in our case I think we're better off cutting our losses. Sorry, I'm just really pissed at Aubrey's. These "new" owners were the same people running the store when these deals came out in the first place. They knew what was going on when they issued coupon deal after coupon deal. I don't think these are very nice people at all.

I'm less with thrilled with this new "offer" given how much markup there already is on Aubrey's meat. I also don't like how it forces more money out of my pocket, especially spending it on a business I have such disdain for. I know, I know, they don't have to honour the coupons at all. It's just that earlier this year the indication was that they'd honour them in whole. The other restriction I heard is that they are only taking coupons on Wednesday and Thursday. Not the most convenient of days to get there if you're not in the area.
