I caught about 30 minutes of Manu Chao but I wasn't feeling it. It looked like people were having a lot of fun but I was expecting more variety. No doubt if I'd been more familiar with the tunes I'd have gotten into it more. I have to echo the praise for Toumani Diabaté. He and his band were magic. I daresay I even heard a little Jerry in the guitar players' licks. More photos

I tried this approach at the Folk Festival a couple of years ago, they called my bluff and security actually threatened to kick me out if I didn't sit down. I pissed off to another stage in anger. I've hated that fucking festival ever since.

I asked about this on a "Bluefest volunteer" group on facebook and got the following reply from a 9 year volunteer veteran: My feeling on this is that the organizers should be raking in enough cash to throw the party on their own dime. Would still like to here feedback on this from past volunteers... Stephanie?

I brought this up with the head of security on the Bluesfest facebook group, because they've tried this in the past and it's failed spectacularly. Basically he said they don't have enough security on staff to properly manage a "standing only" area. In terms of priorities it's pretty low on the list. Bluesfest could of course hire more security.

The best part about the video screen was when some yahoo standing in front of the camera started waving a white towel in the air. Little did buddy realize he was pissing off about 10,000 people.

Anyone wanna give the fire marshall's office a call? I'd hope they would take the compaint seriously.
