  8. What musical "discoveries" did people make in 2009? I'm talking about bands/acts you hadn't known about before 2009 started, and which you're now a big fan of. For me, the big one is Bruce Peninsula; thanks go to flipzoso for turning me on to them. I saw three of their shows this year, including back-to-back Saturdays (in Burnstown and then Ottawa) in October, and they impressed me more and more each time I saw them. They mix harmonized vocals with tight-as-prog intricate guitar riffs with a kind of tribal feeling to it at times. Their do some great covers ("Swimming Song" by Louden Wainwright, "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac), and are great people and dedicated musicians taboot. Aloha, Brad

    BEER!!

It's made in Barrie, ON, and is hoppy like some of the American IPAs (that said, it's not super-crazy-hoppy). It's part of the normal LCBO catalogue: http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/lcbo/product/details.do?language=EN&itemNumber=132670 Aloha, Brad

    BEER!!

I bought another six-pack of this today, and just realized that they print little messages in their bottle caps (is it Magic Hat that does that, too?). So far, I've had Change is inevitable...except from vending machines. Do not have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. Free beer tomorrow. [three times] God. Family. Beer. He who laughs last drinks slowest or drinks the most beer. If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before. Roll Tide Roll Smile. It'll make people wonder what you're up to. Thirsty, Thirsty, Hippo! Your sole purpose in life might be to serve as a warning to others. Aloha, Brad

    New Cookbooks

I got Good Eats - The Early Years a companion book to the first bunch of seasons of Alton Brown's "Good Eats" show. It goes episode-by-episode, with tidbits and trivia about how the episode was made, along with diagrams of stuff (it's a cook-book that's enjoyable to read, almost as liner notes to the DVD edition of the series). As a cooking guide, it's also arranged by topic, rather than by recipe, so there are separate chapters for eggs vs. potatoes, for instance. There's also a good amount of science in it (as there is in the TV show). Aloha, Brad
  18. I'm looking for options. Is anything going on? Aloha, Brad
