  1. I'll be that from anywhere not near Ottawa, you could have heard The Spades last night: Mavericks got a new PA, and it was meltingmyfacingly loud. Which is as good a warm-up as you'll find for tonight's show: Acres, Glory Glory Man United, and The Gallop at Dekcuf. Who's in? Aloha, Brad
  2. One of Brad Barr's projects, Berithen Berio (formerly know as Super Little), is playing at Le Divan Orange in Montreal on Wednesday, Dec. 16. http://divanorange.org/calendrier/2009/12/16/brad-barr-and-berithen-berio/ Aloha, Brad
  3. I heard that, at this year's Ottawa Folk Festival, Bruce Cockburn spent about five hours sitting in his van, practicing guitar. Aloha, Brad

    Scallops

How about scallop liver pate? Aloha, Brad
  5. If you want to access an FTP site, you need its address, which will look like a website's address (e.g., "ftp.somewhere.com"), and you'll also need a user ID and password to log into it. What have you got so far? (E-mail me if you want.) Aloha, Brad
  6. Inglewood Jack (rehearsal), 2009-12-03, Dennis' Basement, Ottawa, ON. Aloha, Brad
  7. Bump and roll-call for The Spades tonight. Who's in? Aloha, Brad

    Do you drink Tea?

I don't, but my brother does, and I've had good luck buying tea for him at the Teaopia shop in Carlingwood Mall. Aloha, Brad
  9. Heisholt's also in Bluebudzz, and Mike also has a solo singer/songwriter career. Aloha, Brad

    MSG # 1

And two AC/DC Bag show-openers within a week. Aloha, Brad
  11. I did some googling for "peter kewin", and found a chiropractor named Dr. Peter Kewin in London, ON. It makes me wonder if he and "kewinpeter" are the same person. Aloha, Brad
  12. That's "Six Days On The Road" by Dave Dudley. (The John Henrys do a great cover of it.) Aloha, Brad

    Cheese and Crackers

Not that great at all. There's so little blue that it's easy to miss, and when you do get some, it's so mild that you hardly notice it. The non-blue part is not very flavourful, and just kind of really bland. Aloha, Brad
  14. Songs for Pre Phish Show Hotel Parties: 1. Signed Sealed Delivered- Stevie Wonder 2. Roses Are Free - Ween (live version only) 3. Wouldn't It Be Nice - The Beach Boys Aloha, Brad
  15. They're also playing at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Feb. 22. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, Dec. 5. (There's one other announced date: Feb. 18 at MSG in NYC; tickets go on sale on Dec. 12.) http://www.nme.com/news/eric-clapton/48676 Aloha, Brad

  17. Things seem to have aligned nicely in Ottawa for shows this weekend: Thursday, Dec. 3: Wellman/Essoudry @ Avant-Garde Bar Friday, Dec. 4: The Spades + Watters Brothers + Brothers Chaffey @ Mavericks Saturday, Dec. 5: Acres + Glory Glory Man United + The Gallop @ Cafe Dekcuf Sunday, Dec. 6: Envelope 3 @ Swizzles (Note that the Sunday show is the annual Dusty Owl "Chocholate House" benefit for the food bank, and starts early, at 2:00pm.) I'm going to try to make all of these (but might miss Wellman/Essoudry). Is anyone else planning on coming to any of them? Aloha, Brad
  18. Cornmeal - Tales From Magic Stone Mountain Aloha, Brad
  19. One just-remembered border-crossing tidbit: when we got to the crossing into the US, we lucked out, and got into a completely empty line, smoothly pulling up to the booth. We got asked the usual questions, and got told to park the car and come in. We came inside, answered a few more questions, and got told to sit down. While we were waiting, one of the guards was walking around behind the counter, whistling. The song he was whistling was "Why Can't We Be Friends?" Aloha, Brad
  20. I heard there was a listing for Surprise Me Mr. Davis at the Middle East club in Cambridge, MA on NYE, but the listing seems to have vanished. If it (or The Slip) is actually playing there on NYE, that might make a nice two-fer with The Slip at Sullivan on Jan. 2. Aloha, Brad
  21. Burt Neilson Band - In The Belly Aloha, Brad
  22. Yup, at The Merchant Tap House. Tickets are $15, and are available at the bar. Aloha, Brad
  23. The only show I've heard about so far is MonkeyJunk at Irene's. Aloha, Brad
