    arcade fire last night

I was at both the Friday night and Saturday night Arcade Fire shows. Great room to see them in! I was up on stage right in the first few rows both nights. Out of the two nights, I'd have to say I preferred Friday's show but they were both pretty impeccable. It was being filmed but I hear that the filming was for their personal use (and not for a release). Good times in Montreal. Saturday's show was followed by seeing Mr. Brad Barr play at Oy Patro Vys (sp?) A very interesting show as far as seeing the band go from improv'ed songs, to backing the singer for songs (ie: My Funny Valentine was a stand out) and then back to improv. Brad did a fine job.. and I loved the addition of the harp into the mix. Lovely, lovely.
  17. Wondering if anyone is driving to Mtl this weekend, either on Saturday or Sunday? I'm getting to hit up one of the Arcade Fire shows... yay! Now, just gotta get there.
  18. wow! that's insane...mine is not a hardcover. ...sounds like it was definitely a printing error then!! it totally messed with my head when i read it that way!
  19. hey luke -- i read this book, around 8 or so years ago ... completely loved it. however, i had what i thought was a really fucked up thing happen... my book contains pages 25 - 52 in duplicate succession. and pages 953 - 984 are missing. page 985- 1078 contains the footnote end sections... so essentially, my book has no official end of the story. (which i think is what you are referring to above, correct?) when you talk about the story "looping" do you mean that your version of the book literally contains duplicate pages and misses others (as mine did) or do you mean the plot itself loops. i thought for the longest time that the jest of the book not ending was part of the point of the story... but when i realized years later that noone else seemed to have the same published version i did, i thought it a bit odd.. but it sounds like your version may be like the one i have. the bizarre thing was that a friend of mine's copy at the time was completely different than mine. let me know what your version of the book is like.. this used to drive me nuts!
  20. i can't believe i missed this. but i bet if i told all you folks i was there, maybe you'd believe me?!?!? sorry. but the best thing about reunion shows... is doing them more than once? xoxoxo Mary
  21. My friends Earl Greyhound from NYC are playing Toronto tonight -- Thursday, Jan 18th. Their show is being promoted by Emerge/NEXT who've coupled No Dynamics (excellent choice... explosive pairing) with them for this gig @ the Silver Dollar. Earl Greyhound are an unbelievable live act. This band is blowing up... Chris Robinson from the Crowes has a man-crush on my buddy Matt Whyte (singer/guitarist) .. Kamara Thomas (bassist) just destroys ... I could go on and on... but I'll sum it all up in that their CMJ performance this past year made my top 5 shows of 2006. They're pretty much redefining modern rock n' roll, in my opinion. I got them on MTV live today, so if you want to see 'em, check out the show. They are there soundchecking now... and I'm gonna go there to see them perform later. Some of their recent press: SPIN Magazine feature: CMJ feature: VIBE Magazine review: Rolling Stone: The New Yorker: Viallge Voice: Pitchfork: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/track_review/38201 Below are the quick links to their band pages: www.myspace.com/earlgreyhound www.earlgreyhound.com It's real music... a true treat in both sonics and aesthetics. This trio is breathing new life into rock. Come out tonight and see them if you can. You won't regret it.
  22. .... in the new U2 video as well around 3 minutes in. the guy with beard and lab coat playing an acoustic.
