agreed -- $20 happening live. at least it's not happening live from my parent's house... a few years ago, sitting at work, reading this board about their party at my folks' place live as it was happening... ...coming home to a 20 year old bottle of rye that had been aging since the 80s... all taken care of by these fine boys! ahhh, good times! the memories! yes, props to S2 and KK as well. go to bed! (likely tomorrow)

  9. Happy Birthday Jaybone!!! All the best to you this year.
  10. who are the bajillion others in addition to feist? (note: of the good variety)
  11. hmm... i saw Van the Man @ Austin City Limits music fest in the fall and he was... um... unispiring. Some nice key moments, for sure... ultimately though, he's entered into the realm of crooning for the oldies a bit too much for me.
  12. I had an old relaxation tape... dude's name was "Eli Bay"...
  13. If you're thinking anything "over the counter" == I find taking a Gravol helps me when I really need to sleep. Discovered that while travelling SE Asia and having to sleep in cockroach / rat infested type places. Gravol's my never-fail charm! (when I need it) However, I'm really succeptible to it while I find others aren't... it completely knocks me out while other people I know can take 2 and still be completely alert. I also used to do this relaxation technique where you count backwards from 100 ie: inhale "100", exhale "99"... I think once you get to 50 or something you inhale and exhale on the same number... ie) inhale/exhale on 50.. inhale/exhale 49 slowing down the counting if that makes sense?? Used to work like a charm. Lastly, there's some technique i used to use that involved imagining stress relieved from the tips of your toes all the way to the top of your head.. but i can't remember that one too well.... sorry! Hope they help. And congrats again to you both! It's gonna be a special, special day...
  14. The Leonard Cohen Artwork series is being launched at the Drabinsky Gallery on June 3rd. [color:orange]Leonard Cohen - Drawn To Words - works on paper:: June 3 - 30 2007 [color:green]World Premiere Exhibition part of the Luminato Festival, Toronto TORONTO, March 27 /CNW/ - Drabinsky Gallery, toronto, in association with the Luminato Festival, Toronto, and the Richard Goodall Gallery, Manchester, UK, is proud to present the world premiere exhibition of works on paper and annotations by Canadian poet, songwriter and novelist, Mr. Leonard Cohen. Drawn to Words features more than 30 pigment prints of drawings and sketches selected from Mr. Leonard Cohens extensive private archive stretching back over 40 years. Images from Drawn to Words will include portraits, nudes, objects and landscapes, many of which are annotated with Cohens personal notes, observations and musings. Some feature recognizable characters from his songs, while others reflect his changing moods through revealing self-portraits. Drawings that capture views from his Montreal apartment, alongside pictures drawn during his five-year seclusion (1996-2001) as a Zen Buddhist Monk at Mount Baldy Zen Center are included in the collection. Mr. Cohen has kept journals and sketchbooks since the mid 1960s. As his music career developed, he continued to sketch and draw at every available opportunity and his visual work shares many of the same qualities and themes found in his music and poetry - the light and shade of human emotion, dark humor, social commentary, sexuality and politics. At least one of Mr. Cohens original journals will be on display during the exhibition. Throughout his career, Mr. Cohens art has always been highly private. Only when some of his drawings appeared in his collection of prose and poetry, Book of Longing, published in 2006, did his worldwide fan base get a glimpse of this side of his creativity. We are honored to make this exceptional work available to a wider audience through the publication of these limited edition pigment prints mastered by Nash Editions, California. Each will be signed, numbered and dated by Mr. Cohen and many will carry personal text. Edition sizes are small and once sold out they will never be re-printed. 15. Thanks for linking to this! I'm loving the Do Make Say Think Show from 05-05-07 @ Paradiso.
  16. LOVE the Hold Steady. They were a stand-out performance for me @ Langerado this year. Just missed their show in NYC when I was there a few weeks ago -- they were playing too close to Constantines start time so we made the executive call to miss it (reluctantly). Agreed -- their lyrics on drugs and girls are brilliantly straight-forward, simply catching. Here are some pics I took of them @ Langerado -- didn't get a good one of their drummer, but he was rocking a wicked RUSH shirt. They put on such an incredible performance. Their keyboard player is like a demonic cabaret perfomer. Their bass(laser) player is like a young Keith Richards .... not in looks -- he looks like a dishevelled Andrew McCarthy from Pretty in Pink... but rather in the fact he's boozin' the hell out of the show the whole time and has the most impeccable smoking-while-playing technique I've seen of our generation. Lead guitarist is quite an engaging performer... lots of interaction with the crowd. Good times; catch 'em if you can.
  17. p.s. Photo & NW -- I'll see what I can do w/ extra tics... I've got someone looking into it.
  18. I still kick myself for passing on the show in (I think 2001?) where Elton John joined Ryan Adams on stage @ Lee's Palace in Toronto. My friend KNEW this was going to happen in advance... yet failed to mention the "Sir's" surprise when passing along the invite. Soooo... I didn;t make the effort to make it out to the show -- man would I have ever to have seen that!!
  19. I can't get enough of "Feel it Now" and "Past in Present" from her new album.... been LOVING those 2 especially.

  22. maybe a kris kringle (sp?) of sorts? ie) put all the names in a hat and then each kid pulls one kids' name and has to make them a present out of something found in nature. some links: sand art -- http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/natsand.html paper weights - http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/paperweight.html pebble pets - http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/pebble.html
  23. p.s. thanks to all for the input on the line-up. rings a bell now!!
  24. Unless you're referring to Weir sitting in with moe for those tunes' date=' Ratdog did not play Help->Slip->Franks in 1997.[/quote'] Chameleon, I'm pretty sure that the Al / Chuck sit in for those songs was during the Phil Lesh & Friends tour -- July 2002? Which leads to another question -- was there a Nero aftershow for the 2002 Phil & Friends at the Comfort Zone?
