Well, I have been dusting off some old CDs in my collection, and happened upon a gem. My question is, what is your favourite (or you at least consider it a must-have) Canadian non-jam/improv/groove artist/album?

Album: Andrew Cash (and the Little Ones) - Hi

Artist: Fred Eaglesmith

try:

Ian Tamblyn - Ghost Parade

Bruce Cockburn - oh, I don't know, anything from 1975 > 1984

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing Of Summer lawns

Jane Bunnett - Spirits of Havana

Scott Merritt - Serious Interference (a classic!) or Violet and Black

Jane Siberry - Maria

I know that's more than you asked for but.... [Roll Eyes]

Canadian eh?

Rheostatics are the only answer.

But Eric's Trip's 'Love Tara' is right up there, as is Sloan's 'Twice Removed.'

Hayden is always a good bet, as is hHead. I'll never forget the last hHead show in London at the Embassy where Jason (drummer) had rigged this huge bong into his bass drum and was hitting it hard for the whole show. 'Twas wicked fun.

ps.. Scottie - you gonna be hitting any of the Toronto Rheos shows this week?

Hmmm, a very tuff one... off the top of my head:

  • Matt Osborne - Underwater
  • Blue Rodeo - Outskirts or Five Days In July
  • Brothers Creegan I & II
  • Spirit Of The West - any of the older stuff, up to and including Save This House
  • Erin Smith Band - Get Your Own Sandwich
  • The Hip - Fully Completely & Day For Night
  • Pursuit Of Happiness - Love Junk
  • Sloan - 4 Nights at the Palais Royale
  • Spoons - Collectable (I'm serious!)

There are many many more. Go Canada!

Peace,

Mr. M.
