Mr. Musicface
Yo! Just noticed the always amazing Ani D is playing Ottawa and Kingston in November (no Toronto show, grrr) as well as Rochester in December. http://www.righteousbabe.com/tour/index.asp May have to make the trip for a couple of these shows. Peace, Mr. M.
Jaimoe
That's a good coup for Kingston. Kingston never gets underground " hip " acts, other than Kenny Rogers, Peter Appleyard and The Doobie Brothers. I hope the organizers hit the Queen's campus hard for this one. Ganga Goddess
Awesome! I'm definatley in for the trip to see Ani....Never seen her perform before but have been listening to her for years now. Thanks for the heads up on this one Mr. Musicface, makes planning ahead of time a bit easier...... :).....If anyone from Kitchener and area are interested in planning an excursion for one of the nights, car pool.....Let me know, I'm up for a good time. Um, it's been a good 10 years since Kenny Rogers was here ... and do you not pay attention to ANYTHING coming through town?
bradm
Are these solo gigs, or will she a band backing her up? Aloha, Brad
Booche
Pay no attention to Jaimoe. He talks out of his pompous ass most of the time, in hopes to make him look like he knows what he is talking about.
Jaimoe
Um, it's been a good 10 years since Kenny Rogers was here ... and do you not pay attention to ANYTHING coming through town? It was a joke of questionable quality.
Jaimoe
After getting ripped and rightly so by Booche via email, I'll write what I wrote to him: " I'm shocked that she's playing Kingston ". I'll stand by that comment. I hope they fill the place. I worry a lot about the interest level in Kingston because I want more acts like this booked. I'm a proud transplanted Kingstonian. The Slip turnout and the reported decline of the Scherzo has me concerned. It's great to see The Elixir busy booking good acts like Hayden ( a guy I've pulled - he was in my program at Ryerson ). Mr. Musicface
Are these solo gigs, or will she a band backing her up? I think upright bassist Todd Sickafoose is still playing with her, that's it. It was just the two of them at Bonnaroo this summer. If you've never seen Ani live I'd recommend her VERY highly in any format. I've seen her with her trio, her bigger band with the horn section, solo acoustic and with Sickafoose, all amazing shows! - M.
Mr. Musicface
Hayden ( a guy I've pulled - he was in my program at Ryerson ). He was?!? How did I not know that? (For those just tuning in, Jaimoe and I were in school together at Rye.) - M.
Jaimoe
Hayden was a year ahead of us Jay. His name is Paul Desser. He is Matt MacMillan's friend. Oddly enough, Dave Shore's roommate was Peaches - Merril Nisker.
Mr. Musicface
Oh okay, I sort of remember that guy now. Didn't realize he was Hayden, thanks Dave. You can learn something everyday if you're not careful. - M.
M
Jamoie - I saw Ani at the Grand years ago when I lived in K-town. She packed the place. With regards to the uni female students, rite of passage seems to be an Ani show (following lots of exposure of listening to her at summer camp)... she kind of picked up where the Indigo Girls left off. Jaimoe
Cool M. A good venue acoustically for her too.
Jakis
Im definitly gonna go see her at the Civic Centre. Shes one artist I've been wanting to see for a while now.

It's great to see The Elixir busy booking good acts like Hayden ( a guy I've pulled - he was in my program at Ryerson ). The decline of the Scherzo has really concerned everyone, because what was once a good place to play is now a pathetic shithole with a good PA and an even more pathetic sound guy. Elixir and Grad Club are the only spots to see good stuff these days, and some good mainstream acts (if that's your thing) at AJ's. Even the QEA is useless these days
Jaimoe
I was at the Grad Club a few weeks ago and I was impressed with their upcoming line-ups.
AdamH
Ani must have quite the raging coffee addiction - My girlfriend says tickets in Ottawa are $39.50 + tax!
dave-O
In Kingston's defense, Skelter has been booking "hip" acts (like The Arcade Fire, Golden Dogs, etc.) long before their names have graced these pages.
Jaimoe
I read in The Whig that Kenny Rogers will never play Kingston again because of the Memorial Centre. I say that if that's the case, LONG LIVE THE MEMORIAL CENTRE. Keep the bands coming Skelter. I'll make it the Elixir one day, and I'll definitely be back to The Grad Club. dave-O
On a side note, my brother-in-law works at city hall and says the site for the new arena/entertainment complex is nearly approved... I know you've all heard that before, but it sounds legit.
Jaimoe
It will be on the mayor's land, in Anglin's Bay by the new Whig building and the River Mill restaurant - on the Rideau Canal. I like the site, but the mayor's interests are certainly questionable.
skelter
The Big Harv's interests are certainly more respectable than Izzy's ... she was a useless old twat. A lot of big money people in Kingston got Harv elected - but he's been doing ok so far. Thanks for kind words folks ... I love my job
Jaimoe
I hate Isabelle. She's a condescending witch. I'm pleased that Rosen was elected, but I'm a little concerned about the new box-stores being built so close to the city core.
Tickler
sweet. Going to this show for sure!
