The highly anticipated sophomore album “Flies in the No Fly”, from New Brunswick’s own Grand Theft Bus is set to hit the shelves of music stores in the very near future.

The band’s debut album, Birth of Confusion and their live performances across Canada and the United States have won legions of fans for the band and many were anxiously waiting for the band’s next album.

This very unique hybrid of 50’s Swing and 70’s Canadiana rock is a wealth of deep rhythms & melodic poetry that translate completely to offbeat tastes and popularity. Grand Theft Bus is being described as "cinematic, sensual & rhythmic"...and is at once a very honest impression of artistry and "playful imagination".

As Drummer Bob Deveau puts it, “The first impression you have when you hear us play is that there must be more than three of us.”, as he sips on his fruit energy drink. “Well that’s because there is four people in the band” as Guitarist/Keys/Vocalist, Dennis Goodman modestly points out.

“It’s definitely an extension of what we were doing on “Birth”!” says Graeme Walker, Bassist and Vocalist. “But at the same time we wanted to go back and show our love for the music we grew up on.”

And it can be heard on the latest album. Grand Theft Bus salutes many of their influences, and even convinced a few of their idol’s to come into the studio.

“It was amazing” says Tim Walker. “Frank Soda came in to the studio, put a T.V. on his head and tuned his accordion to the theme song from the Weather Network, you know the one for the local weather updates. It really is a childhood dream to have such great talent come in and work their magic.”

Frank Soda wasn’t the only one to lend their talents to “Fly’s In the No Fly”. Fellow New Brunswick musician Ken Tobias added some sound effects via an old crank organ that was in the studio. “We just hit record and left him to it” comments Graeme.

But it wasn’t all fun and games. At one point, Glam- rocker, Godo was unhappy with the mustache that Goodman was sporting in the studio. “He kept yelling that he was the only one that gave a good mustache ride.” Tim excitingly remembers. “Next thing you know the two of them are going at each other with beard clippers and I’m in the middle telling them they’re both like magazines…really… you guys got issues”. When things finally calmed down, Godo turned that anger in to one hell of a wax paper comb solo at the end of one of the tracks. “We can all laugh about it now.”

Another aspect that fans of Grand Theft Bus will notice is the lack of good bass EQ-ing. But it’s all on purpose.

“We really wanted to step back in time and have the album sound come as close to that old AM radio tone.”, points out Goodman. “Our stereo in our van has been broken for some time and we can only get AM Radio, well that is if the weather is just right and the metal plate in Tim’s head is at the right angle out the passenger side window. It got us to thinking that if it works for bands like Mock Duck and Crowbar, heck why not us.”

“Flies in the No Fly” is a “Ballsy” album, for a “Ballsy” band. Grand Theft Bus has taken three steps forward and two steps back and are ready to ride their “Steeds” along familiar but new paths. Hold on to the reins kids, cause this gonna be one hell of a Bus ride.

Report/Actor Timothy Busfield is an independent out of work guy. Things have been rough lately and GTB was the only band that would allow him an interview.
