Del
So I think I'm going to buy a DVD player in March. I want something reasonably priced (read: kind of cheap), that plays DVDs, CDs, CD-Rs, DVD-Rs, mp3s and VCDs... What brands should I be looking for? Where should I go to buy it (in Ottawa, if possible)? Any brands I should avoid? As it stands, I have nothing to play anything on, since my computer's disc drive is currently on the fritz... I can't wait to get it fixed, but I'm dying to have something in the meantime... Thanks for any help.
Booche
How much of that money stuff can you spend?
Del
To be honest, I don't know what a DVD player goes for... I don't need a top of the line machine, but I don't want something that'll crap out in 6 months either... I seem to remember people talking about Apex (is that right?) awhile ago, and those were less than $100... I don't want to spend more than $150, and way less than that if possible... Del
I don't have room for all that extra stuff... Sounds like a great deal though... When (and if) I eventually move out of my tiny one room apartment, I will definately be in the market for a system... Right now, a DVD player is all I have room for (literally)... bouche
What are you going to hook it up to? I think your main concern, if you aren't getting a surround system is connectivity to your current TV. I don't think all DVD players can hook up to a tv without proper inputs. bradm
My (approx. 12-year-old) VCR died recently, and I wanted a DVD player, so I bought an RCA VCR/DVD combo, which hooked up to my (approx. 12-year-old) TV just fine. It's the size of a normal VCR, and cost me about $200 (new). Aloha, Brad

ollie
DVD players are dirt cheap now. Most major brands have a model under $100. I bought my mom a Hitachi for Christmas for $69 plus tax at Best Buy. I think you can get real cheapies for $29 - $39.
Buffy420
[color:"green"]I got an XBOX for playing DVD's when my TOSHIBA DVD player bit the dust. I bought a controller for the XBOX so it plays DVD's ($50). Then the other day, a buddy put a chip into my XBOX and now it plays DVD's without the remote.
