Least Favourite Covers of All Time

NAd while we're being totally honest, the Grateful Dead excelled at destroying perfectly good songs on a few occasions.

JGB's "After Midnight" for instance. And if any of you potheads reference a single show date, I'll remind that there's 5 for that one that are bad. Roar!!!

Heres some Dylan covers that make me cringe...

Girl From The North Country - Pete Townshend

Girl from the north country - Rod Stewart

Mama You Been On My Mind - Rod Stewart

Tomorrow Is A Long Time - Rod Stewart

The Times They Are A-Changin' - The Beach Boys

Forever Young - Diana Ross

I'll have to listen to that Townshend cover again.

One good Dyan cover is One MOre Cup Of Coffee from The White Stripes first album. Worth looking for.

Don't get me wrong,I like alot of Townshend's & Stewart's work but I just feel some people shouldn't cover other peoples music,at least some songs anyway.Rod seems to make the songs sound flat, sorta lacking depth & insincere,as if he was just going through the motions singing it and Pete, well I just don't like the way he covers it.Its just one of those songs for me I guess,I get sorta picky with certian covers of Dylan's I hear.

I've heard the mp3 of The Whites stripes "one more cup of coffee",not too bad at all.

A great cover Jack White does is "Wayfaring Stranger".Haunting.

Uncle Bill: "Mr. Monk, I really like your music and I think you are a great piano player".

Thelonious Monk: " You don't know sh!t about jazz ".

(Actual conversation between Monk and my uncle, mid 1950's Toronto).

That's so awesome!

And my uncle who's in his late 60's is still mad about the incident, which adds even more to the humour.

I haven't looked back in this list lately, but I do hope somebody's put down Rod Stewart's version of Old Man River - I mean, that's just absurd.

I believe that's The Jeff Beck Group's version of Old Man River. That's the only blemish on Beck's best album Truth, one of rock's great albums. At least Keith Moon plays timpany on that song.
