dimafleck: the living legend. Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 i saw contact open up for jimmy swift band a few days ago...and they got me dancin! HARD!
bradm Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 You can go here and download some live shows. The most recent two shows, 2005-05-06 and 2005-05-07, would probably be good places to start.Aloha,Brad
SaggyBalls Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 I've seen Contact a bunch of times and have their releases. I think they're a tight pumpin' workhorse of a band. Shakey is my favourite percussionist in the scene (no melissa/shakey discussion...they're different kinds of musicians) and I remember a show where mike spun house between sets.that being said, I can't wait until they live up to their potential. they're a great band but still fairly new. they've got a long way to go. Glad the trip's been fun this far.
Guest Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 they suck, don't go see them unless there paying you, they remind me of that band cavern
Jay Funk Dawg Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 what's the deal on their new guitarist? Can't wait to see 'em at Come Together.
Guest Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 he sucks. he couldn't carry a tune if it was on a tray
SaggyBalls Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 realizing my post may have sounded borderline negative, all i was trying to say was 'this band is solid and if you keep an eye on them they're only bound to get way cooler'
Boochawan Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 yeah, great tunes and a great bunch of guys to boot. Played a couple shows with them in montreal/ottawa last month. check it out if you can.
Jay Funk Dawg Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 (edited) ...so you're the old guitar player? Edited May 16, 2005 by Guest
MamaPink Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 Shakey is my favourite percussionist in the sceneI'm so with you on that one beats! He is phenomenal! Can't wait to see them at CTMF...
SaggyBalls Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 SWEET!he IS a phenom. Now all I need to hear is a shift to more dynamics in their set and we'll actually hear every individual member and I can be a marionette for the band to play.I like contact a lot. they're all smartypantses, but they need to hit the books and study...some new grooves, some new vibes, some new directions.go check em out. this summer's probably going to be a big learning experinece for all of us.
safety 4th Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 #1 the website is www.contacttheband.ca , not .com (the .com is some other thing in the states that has to do with uncle kracker or something equally as bad <-- sorry uncle kracker fans)#2 mike hunt is the guy who ate the pickle i shot outta my arse at coventry (see: http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/162066/post/162661/#162661 )#3 canned beats better have a yard sale at CMTF#4 i'm crashing said yard sale with a keg and a pocket full of bottle rockets#5 our new guitar player is jeff dowdell aka "the rookie"...i plan on ensuring he gets so drunk that he falls off the stage at CTMF. he will also be lighting my bottle rockets for me at the yard sale (at which point he will be aka "the burninator") oh yeah...and he's a sick guitar playershakey
Giggles Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 Great band that is continually going through changes...the new addition of "the rookie" on guitar is a good one, but the band will be continuing to evolve before our eyes...the CTMF line-up for Contact will be the last of its kind as it is Phil' (bassist, keyboard, long hair guy) final show with the outfit. Now Beats, you can look in the future for more collaberation amongst the new members of the band...it (lack of song writing amongst the ENTIRE band) was the only thing that may have been holding them back. That being said, Contatc played an AMAZING show on friday w/ JSB...my favourite part of the evening! May the blessings be, Gawpo Giggles }:|
Giggles Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 and my actual "response" to saftey 4th is: always use a watchman while using the bathroom... Gawpo Giggles }:|
The Chameleon Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) Indeed. Kick ass at "Come Together" Shakey.....The Chameleon Project is pullin' for ya'..-Josh Edited May 18, 2005 by Guest
meggo Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Q: is the Chameleon Project in any way related to the Red Star Project?
The Chameleon Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) No we are not related to the Red Star Project. What are they all about? Edited May 18, 2005 by Guest
Tooly Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 I LOVE THE NW CD OF CONTACTS, DOLLAR EMPIRE, THEY SHOT ME A COPY AT THE LAST PJC SHOW I WAS AT, fuckin caps sorry guys, its work puter policy, anyways, the new cd i definitly reccoment pickin it up.that live cd is awesome too, the one that comes in a floppy disc case haha
Kaidy Mae Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 That floppy disc case is by far the coolest packaging I've seen in ages. I think the only thing that's topped that for "coolness" factor would be Martin Tielli's subscription series. Those Contact fellas are fun!
Tooly Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 my only beef with the band is the first 3 or 4 shows i saw were basically the same set, i hear ya beasts about changin the groove up every now n thenpsthat shakey percussionist rocks it hard, ,really good at what he does
SaggyBalls Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 hm. surprised you haven't heard of them. meggo - you're priceless.I'm not suprised at all...[color:red]cause even I haven't really heard of them.
SmoothedShredder Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Is there a link for the Red Star Project? Must be kinda good if their name showed up in this thread. ~W
