ESCALATE (www.Escalatemusic.com )

[iMAGE]http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Images/hires4d.JPG[/iMAGE]

Escalate began as a whim, a one-off musical experiment. The brothers Kern (Shandy and Jordan) and the brothers Drygas (Tyler and Grant) came together to provide the live soundtrack for a friend’s art exhibition. A week before the performance, the foursome assembled for a rehearsal. As the set of brothers began to “jam†for the very first time, the newborn quartet stared at each other, puzzled, sharing the collective impression -“what is this wondrous sound?†Escalate has spent the last four years astonishing audiences and listeners, constructing a remarkable musical saga:

as the centrepiece of the classic after-hours events at Spadina’s Studio 204; as the music behind Brad Ketchen’s shoegazer vision “Hollowphonic†(Hollowphonic supporting such acts as the Manic Street Preachers, the Super Furry Animals and Low);

shocking spectators at the Rivoli, the Reverb and Revival; with stunning sellouts of the Embassy and the Elmo (past and present); electrifying crowds throughout Toronto and Southern Ontario, in every music room from Parkdale to Springdale; and, saving the best for last, with the release of their first full length composition, 2005’s “Grooves.Beats. Science. Soul.â€

The motivation behind Escalate’s unique synthesis of sounds (the grooves and beats behind the Drygas brothers rhythm section, the science and soul behind the sweet melodies of the brothers

Kern), is, simply, the sound of the world. Escalate unapologetically fuses the planet’s eclectic styles, melodies and rhythms, confidently re-flavouring them (with just a hint of swagger), daring the world to apply a genre title. The InBreds' Dave Ulrich exclaims “this music could be played anywhere,â€

elegantly capturing Escalate’s intentions. The band, true fusionist heroes, trailblaze the musical spectrum, freeing the landscape from the shackles of classification and categorization. Whatremains can only be described in one way - pure Escalate.

BIG LEAGUE CHU (www.BigLeagueChu.com)

[iMAGE]http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Images/Big League Chu.jpg[/iMAGE]

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada’s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that’s become Chu’s rallying call - and it’s one that crowds answer faithfully. Whether it’s at his residencies at Toronto’s legendary Breaksfest events, Fridays bi-weekly on the Dynacord at Boa-Redux, or as a staple of the Make It Funky party's laying down that mid-tempo funky vibe we have all come to love. In a city renowned as one of North America's largest party scenes, Chu has played alongside the worlds finest,

allowing him to develop his own distinct style of breaks. Chu's sets can vary from hard beats to melodic funky down tempo sounds, but always remains a crowd mover.

The born and raised Torontonian began spinning in London, Ontario while taking his undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology at The University of Western Ontario. Chu quickly garnered attention at local parties, leading to gigs in Toronto, including the Dose event in the summer of 1999 when he was asked to fill in for Barry Weaver for his second appearance in the city. He so impressed organizers that Chu was then asked to play the 14,000 plus crowd at the annual Dose Freakin’ Halloween event later that year, and as since become a mainstay for Toronto's largest party companies, like Metro Productions (Kickit and Out of Hand), Lifeforce Industries (Dose, Syrous and Renegades), Empire, and Liquid Adrenaline.

Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. It’s this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly.

Away from the turntables, Chu produces original tracks, both on his own and in collaboration with fellow DJ, Incog, under the moniker of Zoo Soundsystem, which recently released the track “Fever†on Toronto’s Promo Records. His future projects include releases on DJ Love’s Stellar Music label. Chu is represented by APT ENTERTAINMENT INC.

ROBB G (WWW.Robbg.com )-Rare Toronto Booking

[iMAGE]http://x.promorecords.ca/images/pics/60full.jpg[/iMAGE]

Robb G has been DJ'ing for over 10 years and it certainly shows through his diverse and technical abilities on the

turntables. He creates his unique sound by fusing together hard driving beats and anything funky with his energetic

presence behind the decks. His hard work and abundance of energy that goes into every live performance has taken him to

Europe, the US and more than 30 Canadian cities.

His newest release co-written with respected house producer Paranoid Jack entitled "Environmental Product" is being

played by the likes of Rennie Pilgrem, Aquasky and Meat Katie as well as getting support on BBC Radio 1, Breaks FM and

Ministry Of Sound Radio.

He's been called "one of Canada's breakbeat pioneers" and is responsible for founding the country's first breaks label,

Laidback Lab Records. Created in 1998, the imprint was an outlet for Robb to express his early exploits in music production as well as being home to the first releases of other soon to be stars such as Jelo. Robb's second release "Stick up kid" topped charts across the continent all the while gaining him the respect of his peers back home. The underground hit was the final icebreaker for him to penetrate the incredibly competitive Toronto DJ market. During the peak of Canada's rave scene in 1999, Robb was a resident for the now legendary Lifeforce productions. He was on the bill of every major event in southern Ontario, including Syrous's 6 year Anniversary with Daft Punk, Moonshine's over Canada Tour, Dose's "Throwdown" with the Freestyler's and Kickit's inaugural event with Adam Freeland & Q-bert.

By the year 2000 Robb's production was taking him to new heights and his work was featured on the iDance compilations. The high profile CDs compiled by MC Flipside raised money and awareness for the local electronic music scene in conjunction with outdoor rallies held at city hall. The first iDance rally was held on the eve on a major vote by Toronto council on

the use of city owned venues for dance music events. It was a huge success with over fifteen thousand people in attendance and the massive show of support influenced a positive vote by city officials the following day. In 2001 the event surpassed all expectations and drew well over 20 000 people while the CD featured Robb alongside respected producers such as Freaky

Flow, the Vinyl Syndicate crew and Hatiras.

With the evolution of Robb's sound shying away from the sample heavy tracks that Laidback Lab Records was known for, starting a new label was inevitable. His launch of Promo Records in the spring of 2001 was met with instant success and

in support of the new venture Robb went on a 20 date coast to coast tour. The title track of the first release, "Chunk",became a favorite with top North American DJ's like Donald Glaude and was licensed to compilations across the country.

As Robb's profile increased, so did the remix requests and after turning in a stellar remix to the owners of 2 Wars, they approached him to join their label group. Knowing full heartedly the benefits of teamwork, Promo Records became the second label to join the group. The 2 Wars label group is now 5 labels strong including; 2 Wars, Purephunk, DSV, Womp and Promo.

The influx in sales and buzz overseas for the newly formed alliance was so strong that they had to relocate their pressing and distribution to England to meet the exporting demands. Individually, the releases on Promo Records have received the support of just about every major name in the breakbeat world such as DJ Icey, Rennie Pilgrem, and Krafty Kuts.

With an overwhelming passion for all he takes on, the sale of thousands of records under his belt, Make It Funky is happy to welcome Robb G back to our lineup, with several big releases scheduled for the next year alone and all while having the

support of his peers, it's no wonder that Atomic Hooligan is saying "Robb G is definitely the name to check for this year".

ANGUS ROBINSON( www.AngusRobinson.ca)

[iMAGE]http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Images/angus_at_element1.jpg[/iMAGE]

Angus is one of the hardest-working, most active players in the Canadian and International Breaks scene at the moment. His successful record label (Money Shot Recordings), his position at the world-renowned Release Records, as well as his

long-standing radio show (Futurized Radio) has garnered him quite an international following, so much so that he was recently voted 38th Best Breaks DJ at the 2004/2005 International Breakbeat Awards (Breakspoll). Next year he looks poised to secure the 37th spot!

Angus’ love for making music began at an early age with piano and later on with guitar. As a teenager, he got into electronic music however it wasn’t until 1998 that he put his first needle to record in front of a live crowd while a

student at University of Western Ontario, in London, Canada. Since then, it’s taken Angus Robinson a very short time indeed

to climb the breakbeat ranks of his hometown of Toronto and, for that matter, all of Canada.

After moving back to Toronto, Angus took a full time position with one of the world’s top record stores, Release Records to head up their online ordering platform and assemble their Breaks department. Not to be left behind by the changing

technology, Angus recently helped set up the digital downloads section which has been a big hit with both DJs and the non-12â€-buying public worldwide.

His position at Release Records, radio show, and record label ensures that Angus is always armed to the teeth with the freshest selection of new tunes, Money Shot testers, promos, and CDRs, the likes of which are in very high demand among

fellow DJs. His style is hard to pin down, but an underlying element of funk is present in everything he plays. In his DJing career, Angus has held residencies at The Guvernment, Turbo, System Soundbar, Limelight, Fever (in Hamilton),

Milano's, Lush (in London), Tonic, The Blue Room (in London), Bauhaus and more. He has had the pleasure of playing alongside Meat Katie, Koma & Bones, Krafty Kuts, Jody of Way out West, DJ Hyper, General Midi, Atomic Hooligan, Skool of Thought, Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, and many more. His talents have earned him gigs all over Canada as well as the USA, Taiwan, and China.

In early 2004, Angus set up Money Shot Recordings, an outlet for the funkiest breaks in the business. The label looks set to

make a big stir on the international breaks scene, with the imprint’s current output being supported by the likes of Plump DJs, Donald Glaude, Stanton Warriors, Soiul of Man, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Crystal Method, Drumattic Twins, and many more.

The current Money Shot artist roster consists of Circuit Breaker, Myagi, Steelzawheelz, Bassbin Twins, Infekto, Boogie Army, and there’s loads more in the works. For more info on this label, check out the website – www.moneyshotrecordings.com.

Angus recently outfitted his apartment with a brand new recording studio to put his knowledge of piano and guitar to use. Expect to see some funky-fresh Angus Robinson tunes forthcoming on Money Shot in the not-so-distant future. We are happy to welcome Angus to the Make It Funky Collective in his first appearance with us. He is sure to lay down the serious funk.

ADAM ADISON OF THE BEATFREAKERS (WWW.Beatfreakers.com)

[iMAGE]http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Images/adamadison.jpg[/iMAGE]

Under the moniker of "The Beat Freakers," Adam Addison and Greg Carlson seek to redefine the climate of House and Breaks in North America. Whether behind the decks or in the studio, these two Chicago natives work tirelessly to fuse their two main musical influences into an innovative new form. As DJ's, "The Beat Freakers" have a resume that highlights their ability to construct diverse live performances. By providing support to artists such as Rabbit in the Moon, The Drummatic Twins, The Freestylers, Donald Glaude, Mixmaster Mike, Josh "The Funky 1," Jesse Saunders, Ed Rush and Optical, and DJ Craze, "The Beat Freakers" have solidified their rank

within the top tier of the International electronic music community. Their high-energy style establishes an immediate rapport with any audience, and their desire to recreate a studio session in real time sets them apart from the current crop of lackluster performers. Using samples, locked grooves, and acapellas in conjuction with turntable trickery and furious

scratch sessions, "The Beat Freakers" craft live sets that are eclipsed only by their original productions.

Their first single, entitled "Duck and Cover," is a funky breaks bomb inspired by their Chicago House roots. Remixed by Myagi (aka Sole Claw), undoubtedly one of the most prolific Breaks producers in North America, the EP found a home with the fledgling "Funky Cactus Recordings" based in San Francisco. This signing made them label mates of the legendary "Bassbin

Twins," among others, and set the stage for their acid laden breakbeat follow-up single entitled "Moderate Stimulation."

With "Moderate Stimulation" nearing completion, the future will find "Beat Freaker" originals in the most watched record crates all over the world. Make It Funky is excited to welcome back Adam Adison to our lineup for this special event.

Hmmmm... This looks like it'll be dancefloor-terrificalicious.

I'll be at the Gypsy bustin' loose and shakin' the caboose! But this time I'm going undercover. That's right Magnum is going in deep cover. I'll be disguised as a disgruntled Toronto jam-band/electronic hippie type. That way I'll blend in an be able to stalk my prey.

Watch out! The ladies will never see ol' Magnum coming!

[color:red]P.S. You like my album. I recorded it after I got back from 'Nam and was into the whole Asia/Journey arena rock thing. I think I'm gonna have Higgins paint it on the van.
