Jim Guthrie is one of the most underappreciated songsmiths in Canada.

Shitty that he gets recognised only after doing a jingle for an American corporation, and not after his (at least) 3 excellent solo albums and his work with Royal City. He's now working with Islands and the Hidden Cameras.

Being a guelphite, jim is part of the cultural milieu. It interests me that he set out to make a commercial tune with that song, not that he had an existing tune that got picked up by a copywriter. That was a full on blatant attempt to make some coin, it started as a 30 second clip and only later did he turn it into a full tune out of the interest surrounding it.
