Jaimoe
This faded magazine lists 20 new-ish guitar gods(at least new to most "Greatest Guitarist" lists). The players are in no order. I included a link to the Derek Trucks interview:1. John Mayer 2. Derek Trucks 3. John Frusciante - Red Hot Chili Peppers 4. Luther Dickinson - North Mississippi Allstars 5. Nels Cline - Wilco 6. Warren Haynes - Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule 7. Jim James & Cark Broemel - My Morning Jacket 8. Adam Jones - Tool 9. Kaki King 10. Mike McCready & Stone Gossard - Pearl Jam 11. Tom Morello - Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave 12. Ed O'Brien & Jonny Greenwood - Radiohead 13. Omar Rodriguez-Lopex - Mars Volta 14. Matt Pike - Sleep, High On Fire 15. Jack White - White Stripes, Raconteurs 16. Chuck Garvey & Al Schnier - Moe
AD
that's about right. too bad frusciante plays with a terrible band (now). his best guitar work is with mars volta.good list though, suprised it's from rolling stone.
Jaimoe
Apparently RS hasn't been listening to the last three brutal North Mississippi Allstars' albums.
AD
yeah i didn't want to be negative, but i've always hated the allstars. while i'm here, i've grown tired of warren, derek and the moe. boys. and i've never heard matt pike. but the rest, good work. Jakis
Happy to see Nels Cline on their hes and incredible guitarist.
Jaimoe
I'll never tire of Derek. In fairness, The Allstars first album was fantastic, thanks in-full to it being full of covers by Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside etc... AD
Tom Morello will be at Bonnaroo as The Nightwatchman. As will Nels, Haynes, Jack White, Adam Jones, and hopefully the MMJ boys. Guitar festival 2007!!
gkord
Tom Morello in the SuperJam mebbeh?
Deeps
Does no one have an issue with John Mayer topping this list? He's a freakin basic blues player as far as I've heard. Maybe a god back in the 40s when 12 bars ruled the air waves, but now?Eck.Deeps

MarcO
I think Mayer is a fine player.
zero
Honestly Brad Barr should be on there. It's sort of a hackneyed list that basically reflects RS's editorial board's membership's taste and nothing else.
djmelbatoast
Nels Cline - Wilco Really? He's more of a multi-instumentalist in a band that is more about songwriting and sound layering. Also, Tweedy takes the solos. This list is bogus.
Booche
Umm, what?
Jakis
Nels Cline takes most the solos and plays only guitar. Different types, lap steal and electric. Its also not the only stuff he does. Also in some jazz groups. He also played guitar with Banyan. And he deserves to be on that list.
YearsAlongTheSea
Where's the Barber...?And as much as it irks me, Mayer is ill on the guitar, so, yeah, let the Dave Matthews Jr. be...
djmelbatoast
Oh, I was thinking he was the other guy who switches from guitar to keys every other song.Still don't think anyone from that band should be on a list of guitar gods. And Chili's, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket... no guitar gods there either.
zero
You're wrong mostly. UHm Jaimoe's right - NMA's last 3 cheddar. Marc Ribot should be on there and maybe Wayne Krantz or something if Ribot's not too old... Young at heart. Who else? Well def. MMJ should be on. Nels definitely for the Banyan/Wilco slash multiinstro reason.
PalacePrincess
how the fuck could they overlook this hot beast of browny mangness? he's even thanked in guitar hero!! GAD! WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO when douchebags like john mayer are making #1 and the hotness that is deaner is not even mentioned. that really shivers my timbers. *edit* unless of course, he is already high on all lists of greatest guitar gods ever, and this is for JUST newbie newbs only, in which case, please ignore all typing in this post, but feel free to drool at and appreciate the above picture. thank you and enjoy your flight. Even though I do not like every artist there everyone deserves to be on the list. Even though you are bored of Warren, Derek and the moe. boys they can all play the guitar extremely well.cheers,Jake
zero
No I think the list is actually wrong. Let's do the skank top 20 and I'll see if I can get it in Rolling Stone.
dave-O
Gotta love how 50 year old Nels Cline, with a discography dating back to 1979, made it into a list of "New Guitar Gods".
