bouche
Jambands.ca is pleased to give away tickets to: LIVE NATION PRESENTS ELVIS PERKINS IN DEARLAND WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28th, 2007 THE HORSESHOE TAVERN in Toronto A tragedy; any event with a sad and unfortunate outcome. You may think that being the son of an Academy-award nominated screen actor isn’t tragic at all, but when your father dies of aids and your mother was on board a flight that was flown into the World Trade Centre, tragedy is a word that comes to mind. ELVIS PERKINS’ melancholy songs reflect the personal tragedy he has experienced over the years. In the tradition of Young, Cohen, Dylan and Lennon, PERKINS issues out songs that are at once personal and universal, combining poetry and melody in a sound unmistakably his own. PERKINS has been doing club dates around the country to increasing acclaim; touring with such acts as Okkervil River, Dr. Dog, Matt Costa and Pernice Brothers; appearing at events like Seattle’s Sasquatch Festival, Lallapalooza and Austin City Limits. As PERKINS becomes more visible with his three-piece band - bassist Brigham Brough, keyboardist/guitarist Wyndham Boylan-Garnett, and drummer Nicholas Kinsey, collectively known as ELVIS PERKINS IN DEARLAND - his reputation is growing, along with the size of his audience. His debut album, Ash Wednesday, is a chronically sequenced album of songs written before and after his mother’s death. The album feels both, lived and lived through. He combines emotional intimacy with a warm-hearted studio sound that recalls Nick Drake and Astral Weeks-era Van Morrison. The creative unpredictability of PERKINS’ live set is one reason why his fans follow his itinerary with jam band-like loyalty.
