Some of Jimmy's lyrics are funny and even silly, but the music is powerful as hell as are some of the lyrics.

I did not say souless, all music has soul, but I don't think MMJ has enough soul to produce a powerful "gospel" album.

hmmmm. I won't pass judgement (ha!) until I here some, but I kinda wish for more original work. Hopefully, they will make the material their own in terms of sound.

Maybe we need to get away from the only a big fat sister from the delta in a Detroit church can have soul mindframe and give these guys the benefit of the doubt. Jim James' voice is powerful and haunting and if this rumour's true, i can't wait!

There's hints of gospel flowing through their first album, The Tennessee Fire, and they've already put out a great Christmas album of mostly originals. Jim and company also flirt with blue-eyed soul, so I don't find this a big style leap and soul challenge. I have no idea if they will do gospel in a traditional way. They may jam the hell out of the tunes in attempt to shake the heavens.
