Guest Low Roller
I was hoping the answer was 'gangsta rap'.
Jaimoe
They probably could pull that off too.
c-towns
you mean you weren't converted with "The Word"
Jaimoe
you mean you weren't converted with "The Word"No, and RR's recent skills decline won't have me praying in his church any time soon.
c-towns
I can't picture MMJ's gospel music having much soul for some reason.
MarcO
I find MMJ's music to be really rather silly. So this works a treat indeed!
Jaimoe
The band oozes soul.

Jaimoe
Some of Jimmy's lyrics are funny and even silly, but the music is powerful as hell as are some of the lyrics.
c-towns
passion yes, soul, no way.
Jaimoe
So, to you MMJ is a soulless band? List a few more bands you think lack soul, just for fun.
c-towns
I did not say souless, all music has soul, but I don't think MMJ has enough soul to produce a powerful "gospel" album.
Jaimoe
I guess we'll see. I believe they've contacted one of Elvis' collaborators, The Imperials. Here's a bootleg songlist from the MMJ forum:There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood Tell Out My Soul O Sacred Head, Now Wounded My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less Rock Of Ages How Can I Keep From Singing? deranger
hmmmm. I won't pass judgement (ha!) until I here some, but I kinda wish for more original work. Hopefully, they will make the material their own in terms of sound.
Birdy
Maybe we need to get away from the only a big fat sister from the delta in a Detroit church can have soul mindframe and give these guys the benefit of the doubt. Jim James' voice is powerful and haunting and if this rumour's true, i can't wait!
c-towns
keep it in Blenheim sister.
Jaimoe
There's hints of gospel flowing through their first album, The Tennessee Fire, and they've already put out a great Christmas album of mostly originals. Jim and company also flirt with blue-eyed soul, so I don't find this a big style leap and soul challenge. I have no idea if they will do gospel in a traditional way. They may jam the hell out of the tunes in attempt to shake the heavens.
