I have found that a lot of the bags you have to buy now are crap quality. Especially if you want to REUSE them for poopnscoop purposes (if they have holes in the bottom, then the bag ain't protecting your hand!)

I always use the "cloth" bags now - ever notice how the new ones are really made of plastic that just looks like cloth?

I've got enough plastic bags in the bottom kitchen drawer (saved up from when they were free) to last until the end of Phish's next hiatus.

Here's something that irks me: Why is it when you bring your own cloth bags to a grocery store (and they can be the same ones sold at the store you are in) the cashier rarely bags your groceries. Is this too tough for them? Is it a mangerial policy? I don't get it.

At the Loblaws near my place (a Real Canadian Superstore), I noticed that when I buy plastic bags (I hate carrying cloth bags around and never really plan when I'll be going shopping), the cashiers don't bag my groceries even then! WTF! If I have to pay for my bags, I expect service! Only the Metro seems to bag groceries lately.

You can actually buy biodegradeable poop-scoop bags - they come in a roll of 100 and with a handy-dandy dispenser. Just a thought to further reduce wastes in landfills!

Or, we could even take things a step further by striking not only the bags, but the packaging and other hidden consumer costs. Get back to basics:
