thatpatguy
New York-born MC Guru has died at age 43 after a battle with cancer, according to a number of media reports.Guru, whose real name was Keith Elam, had been in a coma since March. The rapper was best known for his Gang Starr partnership with DJ Premier in the 1990s and 2000s. In recent years Guru had been touring and collaborating with producer Solar."I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options," the rapper wrote in a letter that was posted on website allhiphop.comThe letter also cited that Guru's current collaborator and producer Solar would have responsibility of Guru's artistic legacy. The letter also takes aim at former collaborator DJ Premier."I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ."http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/blogs/theampersand/archive/2010/04/20/gang-starr-rapper-guru-dead-at-43-reports.aspxHFQQeUNaZtc

kc
RIP Guru. but that letter is in question for sure. Highly suspicious that it was written by Solar.
Jay Funk Dawg
I met both Guru and Solar, when I produced a Jazzmatazz show in Toronto in late 2006.The ego coming off that Solar guys was so toxic... we couldn't figure out what was "super" about him.Reading all about the crazy end of GURU, Solar proved to be a really controlling figure in Guru's life which I initially suspected. did anyone read the most recent relevations on this topic?http://www.nme.com/news/gang-starr/50781http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1637485/20100420/gang_starr.jhtml
