Hal Johnson
Holy smokes! Rivera had a shitty season last year, but he has potential to be pretty good. Napoli is solid as well - great fielder and decent hitter.
Jaimoe
Vernon is a class act, but never lived up to his potential. I like that he was travelling across Ontario this winter in a bus drumming up support for the team with only rookies and young players. However, nice deal for the Jays, especially in unloading what was an unloadable contract.
mister slippery
Way to go, Anthopolous. He'll of a deal to move that contract, and with some good return as well. Now, some extra money for a deal with Jose? :chug:
badams
Vernon was a good Blue Jay and seems like a solid guy. However, he never lived up to the contract he signed. Good luck to him!I think it's great that Anthopolous was able to move his contract while obtaining two serviceable players and free up some dollars. Thorgnor
I've liked all of Anthopolous' moves since they hired him, and this trade is no exception. well done. Two great prospects in return. I'm excited to see the Jays in two seasons. They're improving so quickly.
Schwa.
I had a sneaky suspicion that Napoli was only a commodity. They are in serious need of a closer and Francisco might be able to fill that spot if he doesn't toss any chairs into the stands.
Big Wooly Mammoth
Two great prospects in return. i've never heard of 30 year old prospects :content: :content: but it's a great move. Vernon was a very a good player for the Blue Jays. The expectations were set way too high because of that contract. And that wasn't his fault. Offering him that contract was absurd. I remember being at a Jays game a few years ago and these guys behind me were heckling Vernon quite a bit. my heckles were directed towards Ricciardi.Napoli for Francisco makes this deal make a lot more sense now. Hal Johnson
At the time of Vernon's contract there was considerable public and media pressure to sign him long term. He had just come off an MVP type season and no one could have guessed that a healthy and young 5 tool guy would suck so much in the following years. Everyone in Toronto was worried that Ricciardi wouldn't spend the money to keep him...
Big Wooly Mammoth
he had one great year. IMO there was no evidence that it was anything but a fluke. very good player - yes. great - no.
