One of the best live albums ever. [color:purple]Now in it's 23rd release version is brought out with 2 full concerts from Feb 14+15, 1970. Are there any live bands out there that can touch this raw rock energy? Damn these would have been insane shows to be at: http://bit.ly/hTlbCG Live At Leeds (40th Anniversary Super-Deluxe Collector’s Edition) 4CD Rushed out in 1970 as a way to bide time as the Who toiled away on their sequel to Tommy, Live at Leeds wasn’t intended to be the definitive Who live album and many collectors maintain that the band had better shows only available on bootlegs. But those shows weren’t easily available whereas Live at Leeds was, and even if this show may not have been the absolute best, it’s so damn close to it that it would be impossible for anybody but aficionados to argue. Throughout the ’70s the album was seen as one of the gold standards in live rock & roll, and certainly it had a fury that no proper Who studio album achieved. Here, they sound vicious — as heavy as Led Zeppelin but twice as volatile as they careened through early classics with the confidence of a band that finally achieved acclaim but had yet to become preoccupied with making art. There is no better record of how this band was a volcano of violence on-stage, how they teetered on the edge of chaos but never blew apart. This was most true on the original LP, which was a trim six tracks, three of them covers (“Young Man Blues,†“Summertime Blues,†“Shakin’ All Overâ€) and three originals from the mid-’60s (“Substitute,†“My Generation,†“Magic Busâ€), none of them bearing a trace of its mod roots. Live at Leeds has been expanded twice on CD, once for a single-disc 1995 release that contained the entirety of the Who’s non-Tommy performance plus “Amazing Journey/Sparks†and once for a 2001 Deluxe Edition that contained the entire concert from “Heaven and Hell†to “We’re Not Gonna Take It.†So, what was left for 2010’s Super Deluxe Edition? Apart from all the collector-bait accouterments — a book filled with memorabilia, a heavy-vinyl pressing of the original six-track LP, a replica of the “Summertime Bluesâ€/â€Heaven and Hell†7″ — there is the inclusion of the complete concert the Who gave at Hull one day after their performance at Leeds on February 14, 1970. The original plan for their ’70 live album was to cull highlights from the two gigs and release a single album but the Hull tapes had technical glitches — specifically, the bass did not record for the first four songs — leading to the focus on Leeds. This Super Deluxe Edition overcompensates for this omission by including the entirety of both nights — the lack of bass corrected by grafting on Entwistle’s Leeds performance on the Hull tapes — and they’re extraordinarily similar performances, retaining the same set list (the lone difference is Hull lacks “Magic Busâ€) and same sense of energy. Wanting to attend and paying $250 to attend are different Trust me, if somebody laid on a couple of comp tix for a Leafs game i'd be there in a heartbeat with my son. I tend to record the music awards like this and then do a quick watch of the live performances the next day. Gets it done in less than a half hour I want to see a Gaga vs. Katy match ... in a wrestling ring with a lot of oil while Arcade Fire plays a catchy little number in the background

Yes, there are issues with centres and wingers. Dumping the coach won't FIX that. However, at this point it doesn't seem as if ANY of the players are playing for Ron at all. Look at his body language on the bench in the replays as he realizes this too. He knows that it is highly unlikely he makes it to the end of the season, let alone the end of the calendar year. At least there are a lot of other teams to watch in the NHL. I loudly laugh at people who actually pay big money to go and watch the Leafs at the ACC. It's like an abusive relationship and they keep on doing it.

I refuse to watch this tripe. They have reached that point. BIG change needs to happen. This experiment is NOT working. I understand there needs to be time to rebuild. This is year 3 with Wilson. The digitally edited sound is crisp and clean, yet has a warmth to it which is essential for this type of music. This is the second album by the JERRY GARCIA ACOUSTIC BAND, that was scheduled to be released a number of years ago, but circumstances delayed that release until now. In a nutshell-if you liked the first album, you’ll like this one. The tracks for “Ragged But Right†come from the same series of concerts from 1987, recorded at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in New York City, (11 tracks + band introductions),the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, and the Warfield Theater in San Fransisco (3 tracks). For those who don’t know, the players are-Jerry Garcia-guitar/vocals, David Nelson (who played with the great NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE)-guitar/vocals, Sandy Rothman-mandolin/dobro/banjo/vocals, John Kahn-string bass, Kenny Kosek-fiddle/bass vocals, and David Kemper (Bob Dylan’s drummer)-snare drum. Sometimes people new to this music hear the name Jerry Garcia, the “Garcia/psychedelic†factor can overshadow the other musicians, but one listen and you realize you’re hearing a band of equals. They play this music simply because they love the sound they make, the straightforward lyrics tell a (sometimes) true story, and that purity of purpose shines all through these tunes. The songs range from traditional (the title track, “Short Life of Troubleâ€, “Deep Elem Bluesâ€, “Roas Lee McFallâ€, “Two Soldiersâ€, “If I Loseâ€, “Bright Morning Starâ€, and “Turtle Doveâ€), to songs by Mel Tillis (“I Ain’t Neverâ€), Richard Jones (“Trouble In Mindâ€), Reno and Smiley (“Drifting With the Tideâ€) Huddie Ledbetter (“Goodnight Ireneâ€), Don Wayne (“It’s a Long, Long Way to the Topâ€), and Charles Moody (“Drifting Too Far From Shoreâ€). The music on this album is one of the cornerstones of American music. The players are all steeped in country, western, folk, blues, gospel, and bluegrass music. The band’s vocal harmonies are like the title of the album-ragged but right. Garcia has a number of lead vocals, with Nelson and the others stepping up to take a turn occasionally. The music itself is based on any, or a combination of the above genres. Kemper’s snare drum is the perfect foundation for the music-never calling attention to the rhythm, but always pushing the music along perfectly. Rothman’s multi-instrument playing is one of the highlights of this set. And with both Garcia and Nelson on guitars, the sound is full and at times, swinging. Mention should also go to Kosek’s fiddle work, which complements the other players perfectly. This great band lasted only through a couple of dozen or so shows, opening for Garcia’s fully electric band. This is the music that captured Garcia’s imagination in the beginning, and made him want to play music for the rest of his life. So true Bob. Good to see you yesterday. It's been way too long. I can't believe I arrived for the funeral 2 hours early! I had misread the start time as 1pm and not 3pm. I was rushing to get there and started to walk in on the service that was about to start. With the familiar sounds of "Danny Boy" being played and an abundance of lovely little old people, my brain kicked-in and told me this wasn't the service I was supposed to be at. Had a quick chuckle (on the inside as to not upset anyone there) and did a 180 and back out to the lobby. When Julia's service came around it was really good. A beautiful version of Jeff Buckley performing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was filling the room. Damn that song gets to me ... it's soo beautiful. Some amazing stories and words were said by representatives from Dryden, ON where she grew up, to her boss at Rogers, and her new-found biological sisters. As Bob mentioned, there was a John Prine song played (sorry i forget which one). Brian rounded out the ceremony with the most solid, positive and heart-felt speech. He conveyed the strength and joy and happiness that was Julia and reminded us all that we should carry her legacy in that manner. Look for the good. Make things fun. Be happy. Ain't no time to waste. Etc. Etc. Etc. Walking out of the ceremony a rousing recording of Suzy Greenberg filled the air. Classic. Back to the house that they live in for more memories and time with friends. Trying to find some positiveness and it wasn't hard. Just had to look around and realize that I had just made a bunch of new friends thanks again to Julia. Really, as sad as times can be like this, I am learning that you can truly find amazing bounties of happiness too. When I take the time to sit back and observe the humans around me (something Juila was a master at) I will think of Julia and smile. We are all truly fortunate to have been lucky enough to have had Julia in our lives no matter what the medium and no matter how long. Julia you will be missed tremedously and remembered always. Fare thee well .... I know I'm posting this video for the second time, but it was included on the memorial cards that were handed out at the funeral listed as "Julia's not so guilty pleasure". Made up of singles released on the Modern imprints Meteor and Flair, for many it was their first introduction to the fiery slide guitarist, and the crunchy garage sound of James’ arrangements (backed variously by the Broomdusters in Chicago, the Maxwell Davis Orchestra in Los Angeles, and the J&M Studio house band in New Orleans), coupled with his passionate edgy vocals, quickly made him one of the most influential blues artists of his time. Mastered from the original LP tapes and augmented with eight bonus tracks (which include three additional singles relevant to the LP and five tracks from the Chicago sessions), this expanded version of Blues After Hours has great sound, and the rough explosive nature of James’ music is front and center and never lets up from the second he steps into the famous slide riff on “Dust My Blues,†which opens the set. That roaring riff is repeated many times on this disc, since labels constantly demanded it, and James delivered it under a range of different titles, and amazingly, no one ever seems to get tired of it. But James was more than a one-trick pony, and he didn’t just play slide. He was also an impassioned singer, and gifted enough to trade lines (both vocally and on guitar) with horn sections, giving songs like “Dark and Dreary†the illusion of being both raw and smooth at the same time.
