  2. It would help if you knew his music. He writes such beautiful songs, phorbesie. He has been covered by, or had songs commissioned for, many artists more well known. I'm listening to "where the bungalows roam" right now. Stunning.
  3. Brad if you can make it to Bryson you'll probably be glad you did. He really is an amazing songwriter.
  4. Hey thanks, Blane. I love these guys. I'll be splitting my time between them and Brian Wilson tonight ...
  5. Oh yeah, the John Henry's rocked it hard yesterday, as usual.
  6. So somehow by default I ended up catching Michael Franti again. I've passed on the last few opportunities to catch Spearhead, so it's been 2 or 3 years now. I thought they started out pretty strong. They were playing tunes I was not familiar with and I had a lot of fun dancing along with the crowd. Then came "Everybody Ona Move" and the general slow slide into Franti's usual boring crap had begun.I left before the encore was done, amazed yet again how someone who obviously had some talent could be so tedious. I wonder if he showed up at Babylon after the show. Anyone check it out?

  10. Jully Black should be worth checking out. I don't own any of her CD's but have heard a few tunes on the radio, and she sounds like she might rock out live. Anyone seen her?
  11. I don't really care. I was just trying to slow this game down a little. It's been moving too fast lately... Here's a list of council areas/provinces for you Brad: http://www.infohub.com/Maps/scotland_map_219.html
  12. What are you talking about, Heather? There are no bad seats at Salle Wilfrid Pelletier, as far as I can tell. They all have excellent sight lines and great sound. It's a great place to see a show.
  13. Luke Doucet: Aloha Manitoba can't wait for tonight!
  14. So that was fun. Turns out I just took my now 14 year old niece to her first ever rock concert. Corb Lund, Sean Kingston and Feist! She and her little friend had a great time had a great time at Sean Kingston (Sean Kingston! Sean Kingston!) and an even better time at Feist. I enjoyed the Feist show way more than I expected and surprised myself by how many of her songs I recognized. Now she wants me to take her to Sean Paul, but I doubt her parents will approve that one...
  15. AAAAaaarrrggghhhh!!! All previous plans have been thrown out the window, no New Orleans funk for me, no African music either. I just got a call from my 13 year old niece Emily asking me to take her to Feist tonight. 1,2,3,4....
  16. US 'pregnant man' has baby girl An American man who was born female but subsequently underwent gender reassignment has given birth to a girl, US media have reported. Thomas Beatie, 34, is legally male but kept his female reproductive organs after having breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest. Both Mr Beatie and his daughter are reported to be doing well in a hospital in Bend, Oregon. He was inseminated using sperm from an anonymous donor. The birth was natural, a source at St Charles Medical Center in Bend told ABC News, and took place on Sunday. While he has had his breasts removed and has taken male hormones to give him facial hair, he has kept his female reproductive organs and can therefore carry a baby Former model Mr Beatie, who sports a wispy beard, made headlines around the world when he revealed in April that he was pregnant. He told chat show host Oprah Winfrey it had been his dream to one day have a child. "I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he said. Mr Beatie grew up in Hawaii as Tracy Lagondin and was a Girl Scout, model and finalist in a teenage beauty pageant. He began to live as a man when he was in his 20s and officially changed his gender, he told People magazine. He has been married for five years to his wife, Nancy. Mr Beatie's obstetrician, Dr Kimberly James, told Oprah Winfrey in April: "This baby is totally healthy. This is what I consider a normal pregnancy." 17. Darko Rundek & Cargo Orkestar: RUKE (La Comedie Des Sens)
  18. Smuggle your own in. Maybe you could sneak some in inside one of those lawn chair bags I see people with. The canned Heineken available in the Gold Circle treated me all right last night. Except for the $6.75 price tag that is...
  19. http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20080704/oliver_schroer_080704/20080704/?hub=TorontoNewHome http://www.oliverschroer.com/ On a personal note, I had the privilege to hear and see Oliver perform live a couple of times over the years and was deeply impressed by the music the man made. When I learned of his illness and how he dealt with it, I grew even more impressed. So farewell to a great human being and and an awesome fiddle player. ps. I heard on the CBC just now that he died with a smile on his face.
