  2. A New Zealand man who tried to barter marijuana for snacks overlooked one important problem - a policeman was standing right behind him. Wade Churchward, 28, paid a late-night visit to a Wellington petrol station to buy chocolates and crisps. When - with the sweets half-eaten - he realised he had no money, he offered the cashier 12g of marijuana and a pipe for smoking it. But he failed to notice the police car outside and the officer next in line. The policeman promptly arrested the mechanic who, the Dominion Post said, had been drinking. On Monday he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and other unrelated charges, the newspaper said, and will be sentenced on 3 July. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7409880.stm

  4. I checked out the Friday night show. I swear the average age of attendees increased by a few years just by my showing up. The Clock Strikes Music and Whitey were great. Very hot and sweaty in there with all those nice young people "skanking" it up.
  5. Egypt 80 is the name of the band. While it is large, it has nowhere near 80 members. There are just under 20 of them on stage. This will be one of the best shows to hit bluesfest this year, methinks. Thanks for the link to the article, KevO.

The Dead Science have shared bills with and possibly enjoyed the company of bands like Blonde Redhead, Deerhoof, Interpol, The Wrens, Pleasure Forever, The Get Hustle, Xiu Xiu, The Swords Project, The Intima, The Warlocks, The Curtains, Godzik Pink, Young People, Nels Cline Singers, The Building Press, The Lies, Low Flying Owls, Secret Machines, Eyes of Autumn, Rasputina, Good for Cows, KUMA, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Glass Candy & the Shattered Theater, Holy Ghost Revival, and Suffering & the Hideous Thieves. Blurring the lines between the punk rock that grew out of 1980's hardcore, avant and art rock, electro-acoustic music, noise, old world Gospel, and contemporary and left-field music, the current line-up includes Nathan Medema (pedals, found-sounds and field recordings, laptop, electronics, samples, processing), and Simon Guibord (laptop, electronics, Korg MS-20, damn handsome), Ryan Hough (violin), Jasmine Landau (violin), Gerg Horvath (Double-Bass), and Mark Molnar (cello, loops, and electronics). This will be a record release party for Kingdom Shore. The new album, ...and all the dogs to shark, will be available in CD and 180gram audiophile vinyl pressing at the show. 7. Salif Keita is also playing the Ottawa Jazz Fest on June 25th. I'll take Confederation Park over Metropolis for this one. That said, it conflicts with Tim Berne who is playing the NAC 4th stage at the same time.
  8. Didn't the same bike get stolen from the same place once before? Or am I misremembering? Either way, I'm happy for you that you got it back!
  9. Further investigation reveals the show is sold out. I think I may still try to get in.
  10. Just noticed that D.O.A. are playing the Dominion Tavern tomorrow. I had been planning to check out the County Boys at Irenes but think I'm more likely going to head down to the market now. Anyone else on this board going to this? http://www.myspace.com/doapunk
  11. The concert series has been losing money for years. Cold rainy nights and often less-than-inspired programming drove attendance down. I'm pretty sure there was the same discussion here this time last year.
  12. That is an odd link. Try this one instead: http://www.tulipfestival.ca/en/index.php Salman Rushdie is "playing" the Tulip Fest tonight. And for $50 to stand or $75 to sit in a tent on Major Hill Park you can watch him read from his new book. At those rates it looks like the Tulip Fest is playing the good people of Ottawa...

    Tom Waits Tour

It struck me while watching that, that Tom Waits and Jack Nicholson could each easily play the other in film.

My hero! Time to update the passport and spend a lot of money I don't really have, I think.

  18. I have lots of Kruger Brothers music. It wasn't hard to buy their CDs with money at all. Call me old school. Give me a call and I'll burn you some stuff, Heather.
