Really? Whose kids are you hanging out with? Or are you just talking about random kids at the mall? I have a lot of friends with kids now. The kids I know are mostly well-behaved, respectful and sweet, because their parents are quality people who take the time to give their children a loving and supportive environment. I grew up surrounded by domestic violence and it took years to flush all the psychic crap out of my system. Violence is totally wrong, all the time. If you are hitting your kid, at all, it is because you are failing your job as a parent and as a human being. Get a grip, people. I'm with Julia and Louis C.K. on this one. 100%.

Can you recommend a particularly good terabyte external drive? The last external hard drive I had died on me with everything I had downloaded from "Sharing the Groove."

Yeah and it's a turn of phrase that you as a white person should have the class (and respect) not to use. I like it when Velvet answers for me, Ollie. He does it so well. Honestly I really did not put too much deep thought into it. I agreed with him and you asked me to elaborate. When I did you seemed to think it was somehow directed at you. Sorry for the misunderstanding. That said, I listened to a piece the CBC did on this, yesterday, and realized my off the cuff comments were perhaps a little glib. They talked a lot about misogyny within the Muslim immigrant community. It's a complicated issue, to be sure. If I take the time to give it some more serious consideration I`ll get back into the discussion.

How are these arguments reminiscent of the arguments against gay marriage? Well, they basically support the old model (one man plus one woman equals marriage) and argue that any other arrangement is a dire threat to the sacred nature of the union. Like the whole world will fall apart if we allow the currently marginalized members of our society the same rights the rest of us have. It's a joke. Many of the specific arguments may be different but their general theme is quite similar. Those who live differently from the mainstream society are wrong and in fact they are a threat.

I don't think there are a lot of takers for the heavy heavy free jazz on this board, Brad. I'll be there tonight though.
