  1. my thoughts exactly. I listened to it a few times today during work. There was nothing, really, grabbing me that made me want to keep re-listening. But I figure that it should grab me eventually...I hope.
  2. that's gotta be the fastest download ever (for me)! quality seems to be pretty good.at least from what i can tell on my shitty laptop speakers.
  3. The Burlington show just showed up on dimeadozen. i'm downloading it now.

  5. welcome to the neighborhood. I'm next door in Lindenlea. Been living here since September. It's an awesome neighborhood. Great for walking with lots of nature.
  6. his last album if fucking brilliant. wish we had the "too many shows" problem here in Ottawa.
  7. so has jacques greene. at first i thought it said jackie greene. now that, would have gotten me out there.
  8. from Wikipedia (so we know that it's true): he hasn't played with Steely Dan since 1974.
  9. i grabbed the 2nd price level. first row, section 225. Also pulled tix in the penalty box, but couldn't justify the $450 for the pair ($330 was hard enough to justify).
  10. i agree. $100 (the youth early bird price)was reasonable for my kid. $200 is the regular price. when i logged on last night it had $100 crossed out, and it said $129. but when i clicked on that it was no longer available.
  11. he's near the top of the list of acts that my fifteen-year old daughter wants to see. She is much happier than the lineup than i am.
  12. I was just going to by my daughter an early-bird youth wristband for $100,but...they are SOLD OUT! A youth pass is now $200. well, no hurry to buy it anymore. the adult early bird passes are also sold out, fwiw.
  13. that's monahan in the above linked article. on that point he is correct. Osheaga is $250 for one weekend (although, I'd rather spend the $250 on that festival than Bluesfest).
  14. i'll be in town this year, but won't be getting a pass. there are, maybe, five acts i'd like to see. that is, IMO at least, the weakest bluesfest lineup that i've seen. i'm gonna go get my jazzfest pass now.
  15. i haven't seen them in way too long. i'm thinking halloween at msg. hoping to somehow make it to lock'n. panic with steve winwood!
  16. i turned on my radio this morning just in time to hear velvet on the CBC local news this morning talking about this. good stuff!
  17. I saw the movie a few weeks ago and loved it. It kinds of grows on you after as well. I picked up the soundtrack a couple of days ago and I really like it, especially the version of 500 miles and the aforementioned fare thee well.
  18. I've got an old SAE receiver that I bought used in Toronto, probably, in 1985! I had to get it repaired in 1988, when I was living in London, ON. And it worked perfectly until maybe 5 years ago. it sat in my basement for a few years and then it was in storage the last two years while I was out of the country. Anyway, I want to see if I can get it up and running again. I can't even remember what was wrong with it. I think that there was no power at all - just completely dead. Can anybody recommend a good shop in Ottawa where I can take it?
  19. Dinosaur Jr - 1980's punk/alternative band. i would add them to my list. AD: you think Savages are over-hyped? I've been very impressed with what I've heard. remind me a bit of Joy Division. post-punk sound. they played a tiny club in Paris for €20. i already had a €75 ticket for neil young that night. otherwise, I would have rather seen Savages in a small club than Neil in a large arena. Neil was good, but i've seen him a bunch of times.
  20. don't want to get b/w brotherly love here, but... a have a couple of questions: any advice re DSL vs. cable? is one better than the other? more reliable? is 6 Mbps fast enough for streaming Netflix, etc? and DLing torrents? or will it be too slow if both are happening at the same time?
  21. "the kids" were really into her at fete de l'humanite. the crowd was, i think, bigger than the previous night's headliner - new order. but patti is really big in France for some reason.
  22. is city and colour the headliner over Patti Smith? cause IMO if that's the case, that is just fucked. No disrespect to City and Colour, but Patti is a true legend and always puts on an awesome show. I've seen her in small venues (convocation hall, the fillmore) and headline a huge festival. she is more than worthy of being the headliner. I would think that Dallas Green would be honoured to open for her. i'm not going either way. but that's my 2 cents.
  23. I'm not anti-Apple at all. i just generally get a good laptop and a blackberry from work. otherwise i'd probably have already gone the Apple route. I like the compatibility b/w all their products. Can't stand the incompatibility with other products though (but hey - that makes sense). hey - they make good, dependable products. not sure how fast i'll be doing that TV upgrade. not sure the budget can handle it right now. And if I do it I want to get something bigger screen-wise. twelve years really shouldn't be that old for a TV. but it was dated by like, 2005 given how fast things changed. Roku 3 has USB, but only HDMI output, so WD Live looks like the way to go.
  24. no Apple household here. Apple TV would be the obvious choice if that were the case. i need to get caught up with the new technology. fuck - my TV isn't even HD (or flat). When moving fron the States back to Canada, in 2001 I bought, a nice new Sony Wega. it become outdated very quickly.
  25. oops - i meant speed. they only offer one speed (bandwidth) now for DSL: DSL 6 (6 Mbps) @ $36.95/month. for cable they also offer 25 Mbps for $51.95 and 35Mbps for $59.95.
