  1. Wow! This one hits home for sure. When I was in Korea, I had a friend get chased by immigration into my apartment. They made the mistake of taking 5 minutes to go grab an officer to arrest her and she dumped all her stuff on me and ran into the mountains behind my apt. Actually I had two run-ins with immigration there. The second was over my band being an illegial second job.

As well, I was there during the IMF crisis in 1997-98. Trust me. If the climate is changing back to the anti way-guk-saram (or mi-guk) then it is going to be a rough ride. I got spit on in a subway during this time. And it was the complete opposite when I arrived. This sounds scary as I'd say 75% of teachers in the country teach privates and the like.

    Be safe all you Canada-sarams!

  2. This is not your mama's MMJ....

Having given it the full three listens, I'm willing to classify this as a success for the band. I worship "At Dawn" and "It Still Moves" but recognize that between that feeling for musicians to evolve and the replacement of two core members of the band with new guys, the sound was never going to go back to the sweet codiene paced country the boys have offered up before. I saw that Pitchfork was calling this MMJ's OK Computer. While the comparasion is little much, the sentiment rings somewhat true.

Personally, I like the record but feel that I'll still be reaching for the old ones to fill the corner of my musical soul as only they could. The new stuff should kill live.

  4. The one, the only, five disc rotation returns althugh in this, the Ipod/digital listening age, I barely put anything in my home stereo anymore. Nonetheless, you know the rules.

Iron and Wine/Calexico - He Lays In Ruins - I worship this EP - what a great combo

Neil Young - Praire Wind - A great Neil album. Top shelf

Comes A Time/Jerry Tribute 9/24/05 - Jesus why not? Look at the guest list

Pearl Jam 9/12/05 - One of my top five shows of the yesr

  5. Esau, once again I bow to your superior wisdom and hard work. I have a Perfect Echo and it is great. Rev, hope he answered your questions.

Rodeo - I got your disc anytime. Maybe Saturday?

As for Praire Wind, it is so good upon multiple listens. Texture, thought, peace and calm. Worth it.

  7. You are telling me! Did you see the preview for next week too? Amy, ankle, ouch.

I decided to employ the "these people will never make it but usually somehow win these fucking shows" theory.

How many of you Rafe pickers wish you could take that one back after his "I have fallen and can't get up" routine. Wilderness guide my ass.

  8. I got smoked in the head with the blunt side of an axe at 15. One more rotation however....

And the obvious, the whole thyroid cancer experience. But to quote Esau and the late Joe Strummer, I fought the lump and I won!See

  10. Picks are flowing in. I am going to have to close this off by 7:00pm EST Thursday. To address those that perhaps want a sumplementary (sp) draft at the mid point, I'll reserve a decision until the such time as most if not all picks are eliminated from the first draft, in fairness. I will also, in fairness, send my picks by 7:00pm to Basher to ensure I have not cheated.
