  1. can you say sick day, boys and girls? I knew you could. Mr. King won't be in on Monday.

Scottieking, in. Gold bellbottom policy will be in effect.

guigsy, talk to your neighbor about the car pool situation. I'll be making the trip with my lady and we've got to do some stuff before the show.

Gentlemonkey, wear the red panties for me, K?

  2. First, make sure they have a good grip on import and export. Tariffs are also key to understanding this. I'd start as well by making sure they understand why countries would want to trade in the first place.

Next up, ask them to check their clothes, calculators, book bags and see where they are from. Why so little from inside of Canada?

The real reason we love to do business with Asia (aside from cheap labour) is because right now they need us more than we need them. We run a trade surplus (read:export more than import) to a great deal of these countries. Free trade isn't something we are interested in with Asia. We'd rather just belong to APEC and control things from that aspect.

Google Globalization Lesson plans for more inspiration. There's tons out there?

hey meggo, better week this week?

  3. Sparked on by Ms Hux's QOTD, I present the almost 2 year anniversary edition of Five Disc Rotation. For those of you that don't remember how to play, go to your CD player and either

a)check what is in it (5 disc style)

b)look at the pile beside it (one disc style)

c)think on the last 5 that you listened to (200 disc style)

To begin, here's my current obsessions:

Green Day - American Idiot - flame away, fellow hippies but I love it and can't get enough of it

    The Slip - 10/15/04 - Goosebumps

Tom Waits - Real Gone - do not listen to before 10pm

Elliot Smith - From a Basement on a Hill - this guy left too soon

The Arcade Fire - Funeral - I just got this but am starting to dig it

Honorable mentions to Bennavento(sp) and Russo, Brian Wilson, Cake and the Grateful God-Damn Dead.

  4. And you, princess. Man, I was digging the Burties! The new stuff sounded great and I felt the jamming was some of the most patient and subtle groove conscience I've heard from the boys yet. Don't worry, Mike, broken string certainly didn't overshadow a great show, just another Saturday Night, right.

Thanks to Guigsy for the after-hangout, hope to see everyone back in L-town soon.

  5. This is fun! Okay, my first post was Tudes, tunes and talk to you soons and featured a commentary on effect that cyberrelations were having on the head scene and featured introductions and tenative hellos from the most of the people I now consider to be at least very solid acquiantences and more than a few good friends.

It also marked the debut of the "Five Disc Rotation" Threads (correct me if I'm wrong, but I did start that right?) Not bad for a first post and worth checking out.

My favorite thread to look back on is this support that I got from all of you during my operations and radiation. Part of my success is large and in part the support I received here. My gratitute is ongoing and eternal.

    I'm going in tomorrow....

  6. How cool is it, to get home from Hamilton, nap, and wake up to find the f-in torrent ready to go? Gouda, amazing.

Last night too, was amazing. If you didn't dig the show, I hope you dug the scene. One big reunion for a guy like me who hasn't seen ya'll in awhile. Set II is off the hook, a perfect start'em quiet, launch for the moon, and land us all on a pillow of kindness. Very heartfelt effort by the boys.

    have fun, Montreal!

  7. Hey Guys,

This seems the best way to get in touch.

Mr. Hamilton, the B-man and myself will take you up on your offer. Thank-you and see you there.

MarcO, we're rollin in around 10:00ish. Hook up at your place when we drop off the car?

PS. I remember how to get there but need the exact address again. Email me? Very stoked. can't wait to see ya'll.

  8. Alright, everybody settle down. To set the record straight, nobody is comparing Green Day to Floyd, the Beatles to Green Day, nor declaring this album among the greatest of all time. But it is good, it is different and quite frankly if Creed stepped outside the box, changed their style, put some politically biting commentary as opposed to praising God, and the album got good reviews, I'd probably check it out before bashing it. But they didn't. And Green Day did. And I like it. That is all.

  9. True indeed, Velvet. Although the narrative is a little tough to follow. Jesus of Suburbia is definitely a reaccuring character. Saint Jimmy, What's Her Name as well.

    Here's someone else's explaination......

There's a kid wrapped around a world of misconception and he has nowhere to go and feels hopeless and miserable. So this kid, AKA Idiot of America or J. (Jimmy/Jesus), is confused about government, feels dead in society, and has no idea what to do or where to go. He has split personalities, St. Jimmy, his rebel punk '**** you' kind of attitude rebelkid, and Jesus of Suburbia, a more reclusive introverted kid. Anyway, I'll break it down by songs. American Idiot is about how he's lost in a world of confusion and how government is ****ing him over and such. Same thing with Holiday...how he objects to certain things which are too big for him, and he can't do a single goddamn thing about it. He feels helpless and alone. Jesus of Suburbia introduces us to JOS, and his beliefs and how he was concieved (father's rage and mother's love), which is the right side of the kids brain. St. Jimmy is also brought out a bit in this section "I DON'T CARE" showing his extreme disgust towards everyone and everything. St. Jimmy REALLY introduces us to St. Jimmy, the left side, the rebelkid **** you punk ****er. His death in the end, is also foreshadowed in this song, when they mention that Jimmy has a 'taste for suicidal'. The 'father's rage' could show the makeup of Jimmy while 'mother's love' could makeup JOS. Whatever, so Jimmy convinces him to leave town, and he does (Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Are We The Waiting)...Then, life on the streets and being alone gets pretty effing bad, and JOS and Idiot America are pleading for Jimmy to make it better and ease the pain (Give Me Novacaine)...so...In admist all of this craziness, St Jimmy meets Whatsername, a same kind of girl like him, shown in Whatsername, Extraordinary Girl, and She's A Rebel...Letterbomb is about the breakup between JOS/St Jimmy and Whatsername, and how all of this confusion still follows him. She taunts him, in the beginning while singing him the "Nobody likes you, everyone left you" bit. This could be taken two ways. Either, Whatsername is singing this to J. as she leaves, or J. is singing this to himself. Anyway, Wake Me Up When September Ends is basically an overall culmination and depression of leaving home, and also, on a personal level, an ode to Billie Joe's late father. Okay, so in Homecoming everything gets summed up. Idiot America and JOS decide to go home while St. Jimmy kills himself off, signifying the initial death of the punkier side of this kid, and East 12th street describes how JOS followed the conformity and gets a job and stuff, but still, traces of St. Jimmy could be found, as he says stuff like "Wishing he could have cigarettes and alcohol with the under belly"...or something..'Rock 'n Roll Girlfriend' is a postcard, mailed to J. by Tunny. Tunny is never really shown in all. He is most likely a friend made by St. Jimmy, near the 711, or something. Tunny is taunting JOS, while JOS is slaving away at work, Tunny has "Rock 'n Roll this...and Rock 'n Roll that".....and JOS starts to flip and goes home. Another round of "Nobody likes you" starts up, as JOS wallows in his self pity, as he comes to the realization that he's gotten nowhere, and he still waits for Whatsername's return, even though she's 'left without a trace.' Anyway, after all of this, Whatsername sums it all up. It's a retrospect look from JOS and St. Jimmy on Whatsername. He can't remember the name...but explains the times they've had, and we also find out Whatsername ended up with Whatsisface. Whatsername flip flops between different sides of J.'s head. If you have the album inlay, you'll notice alternate handwriting, showing the different views of Whatsername from both JOS and Jimmy. Anywho, this idiot of America is left with a loss of what to do, without a girl, without anything, back at home, but still in that "land of make believe that don't believe in me"....so that's basically it. The trials and tribulations of a teenage schizo rocker**** with nothing to do and nowhere to go. He leaves, loves, comes back, loses love (what's in love is now in debt)..and basically just fades into the background back where he came from...a confused, dumbfounded, American Idiot. He comes full circle, gets nowhere, and is still a confused, alone, depressed, messed up person.

    Great tunes ta boot!

  10. Scott and Scottie do, but lately Scottie don't.

One part, super busy, one part super tired and one part London being the least jamband friendly city in Ont. lately.

Rest assured if the shows were here I'd be losing sleep for them. That being said, see ya'll at the Slip in Hamilton.

  11. Confessions on being the former dirty roomate

As my sister can attest, I've never been one for complete order and cleanliness. Even in my older age I still subscribe to some bad former habits but nowhere to point that it was when I was 20-23yrs. I was your roomates. I was ballsy enough to pull this behavior in both houses that involved all females, all males and even the fair mix. Constant lectures, dishes in the bed, yelling, ignoring all lead to one simple fact. I could not be changed.

Here's what you have to understand. Some people's tolerance for uncleanliness is higher than others. At the end of the day, no matter how much you yell, they will still see the mess and think, no problem there. I now know that

a)it is tied into a larger problem I have with procrastination

b)it is selfish to not consider other's levels of toleration in a co-habitation situatiuon (hey, check out my alliteration)

True be told, understand that they are 18-20 and the universe does revolve around them. This war will only be won if and when a)they come to their senses b)you except that fact that it just can't be changed and so you may have to.

    just my2sense...
