  3. jambase article with video on page of song. LSD No Hitter Dock Ellis' LSD-Fueled No-Hitter Immortalized In Todd Snider's "America's Favorite Pastime" Just in time for opening day, Todd Snider shares one of the wildest stories in baseball history on "America's Favorite Pastime," a song from the upcoming album The Excitement Plan (out June 9, Yep Roc). The song is inspired by the true tale of Major League Baseball player Dock Ellis, who pitched a no-hitter while high on LSD in 1970. Snider says, "He showed up to work completely prepared for something else entirely and yet, still did a great job at the job in front of him giving ill-prepared people everywhere someone to look up to." Watch Todd Snider perform "America's Favorite Pastime" here: The single will also be featured on the digital release The Homerun EP (out April 14, Yep Roc) alongside baseball-themed songs from other Yep Roc artists including Reckless Kelly, Young Fresh Fellows, and The Baseball Project (Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn, Peter Buck, and Linda Pitmon). The Excitement Plan is an album at once social commentary, gypsy recession recovery plan and soul-folk masterpiece. Street corner prophet and goodtime buddy, Snider has been championing the overlooked and underappreciated for more than fifteen years. Self-awareness never sounded so good as Todd and crack sidemen Jim Keltner and Greg Liesz team up with Grammy-winning producer Don Was (Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones) for an album that exemplifies Snider's by-your-wits lifestyle and once-an-age lyricism. Artfully combining an appreciation of what you already have with longshot hope for a happy ending, The Excitement Plan ranges from the boozy tonk of Loretta Lynn duet "Don't Tempt Me" to the earnest soul-searching of "Greencastle Blues." The brilliant "Money, Compliments, Publicity (Song Number Ten)" seems to sum up Snider in a song - gracious and grounded, yet longing to write a song or two that would warrant getting too big for his britches. With The Excitement Plan, Snider may have done just that. Yep Roc's exclusive box set edition of The Excitement Plan limited pressing of 500 units sold out in less than 48 hours after crashing the web store with the high traffic. Todd Snider tour dates available here. And for more on Snider, check our exclusive feature/interview here. http://www.toddsnider.net/ [Published on: 4/6/09]
