  1. As a former Ontario ranked competitive swimmer most of my sports career is embarassing. It took place in Speedo's. There was never any shortage of girls working as timers for swim meets.
  2. Brothers in arms my friend. Brothers in arms.
  3. I really want to link this Toronto Streetcar picture but understandably it's protected. You can stroll through her portfolio of the new work though and see it in it's vivid colour. I would not be surprised if the TTC bought this from her- I'm surprised they haven't. Really great self-marketer and beautiful diverse artist. Writiing this piece has helped me through a tough tough patch.
  4. I've got to say this the only way I know how. I have been going through a really hard time recently- the love of my life is moving on and dating a new guy and we've committed to not even talk. We've been broken up for ages but the spark was always there and she had become my best friend in the world. So I've lost my best confidente and someone I imagined bearing me a son named Levon. I've been okay some moments and just a blubbering mess the next. I was doing okay yesterday and ... seriously I can hardly type this for the tears. I guess I'm saying that the reason I live my life in and through music is that it focuses all of your life experience, all of your love and loss into a singular experience. A crack lets a sliver of light in- that shaft of light illuminates places you may have forgotten. Kev didn't make this mix to soothe anyone's heart as far as I know. Placed in this new context, in the context of this upheaval I'm going through- these songs all take on a new meaning. Animal Fat 'recall the dying embers', One Life Away 'just one step away' and of course I Hate Love (which pushed me over the top). I guess I'm saying thanks Kev, thanks Brad Barr, thanks M. Ward, thanks Andrew Whiteman, thanks community, thanks.
  5. Have a great stay for sure. I was joking when I ran into Ari the other day that the chinese girls are going to LOVE him and his jewfro.
  6. I would never have noticed that- the Manor thing. It doesn't lay out that way in print. It's a double gatefold with a nice picture of Candace and Tiiu and other pieces from the collection (Brooklyn Morning, Toronto Streetcar, Coco Theatre). It really worked out great. I was happy with my interpretation of the Toronto Streetcar- it's nice to do fine art criticism which is what I'm sort of formally schooled to do.
  7. Love ya, buddy. Sorry I can't be with you guys for the shows.
  8. There's already a pictuer of him in costume circulating.
  9. Anybody know where to find the tracklists's for Kev's Cuts. He just gave me 21, 22, 232 and I'm really loving them. Especially 22. Some of the songs are obvious but others I need to track down. I love this guys taste in music, probably because it's similar to mine. I'm wondering whether I got him into M. Ward or vice versa.
  10. This site. I also pretty much exclusively read the New York Times and the Guelph Mercury oddly. Pretty much given up on the national Canadian media, just bores me. Way more interested in American congressional politics and culture.
  11. Sure 1300 and yes they were hiring people back - still it hadn't been reported anywhere and is noteworthy in terms of a massive economic hit for at least one region whether you blame the weather on climate change or what.

I'm surprised there aren't more Wesley Willis, or any I guess I meant to say, remixes out there. You'd think a handful of his tunes would be perfect for the remix treatment.
  13. I've always liked this disc and the Low remix too.
  14. I talked to a friend whose family is from Collingwood and works at the LCBO over the winter holiday there. Anyways she said that they laid off 1500 people at the mountain. Also that they were getting 500 cancellations a day at the hotel and lodges over the break. The LCBO was unsurprisingly stacked busy.
  15. I love this sort of Guerrila shit. I wish I'd done more of this over the year. You get the sense, and this is from other stuff I've read too, that Sov is about as sophisticated as the thugged out british twat she comes off as.
  16. That is an unbelievable setlist. I'm not sure but that may be the Rochester show where my friend Kate and her son Sam were right up front and centre and are visible in the poster. One of those nights Trey was interacting with Same quite visibly.
  17. Oh great, that really means a lot to me. It felt really good, I haven't heard from them yet but I'm thinking they must like it.
  18. As Weirdness will tell you I was a HUGE wrestling fan when I was a kid. I had all the magazines and everything. I'd bring them up to summer camp (I'm trying to figure how old I would have been that year- probably 11) and Pete and our cabinmates would tease me to the point of tears about how wrestling was fake. I really didn't believe them. 'No, it's real!' I can still here Pete mocking me. I even made a wrestling belt for crafts that year that said Champs Corner.
  19. This is my first big cover story where I had a hand in the art direction and whatnot. I haven't read it yet but I presume it was edited well. Some board content although I wasn't able to mention it in the article Deeps, Brooks and the GoodRev are doing the EP release with Tiiu although they aren't on the album. I attended their rehearsal on the weekend and it sounds good. I would have mentioned them directly, which is what Tiiu would have liked and I would have liked but it was extraneous to the flow and took away from the women in the arts angle. Gone Are The Days
  20. Pull me over, buttercup. Can someone please find a picture from the Joy of Sex to post here - I can't get the code for one. You just know there's been some of that twirl the armpit hair with your tongue bit going on up in that bus.
  21. I was doing research on something or other recently and came across him. I'm wondering what it was that got me onto it, has he done some other recent work. Sad news anyways.

I have to say oddly I agree with more than a handful of Dima's assessments there. Also seriously who does need another fucking version of One More Saturday Night by Bobby. And this was admittedly a pretty good burn.
  23. It's been a pleasure for me to get to know Depiante over the course of the last year as well. Glad to call him a friend. Happy Birthday sincerely.
  24. I had a funny moment doing a mental health presentation in a Catholic school before Christmas and we walk into this beat red shag carpeted chapel and they'res like 25 nubile grade 12 catholic school girls staring up at me and whispering to one another. It was on that occasion that I first asked the question: If god does not want men to have impure thoughts about Catholic school girls WHY did he dress them in a hookers uniform?
  25. Is anybody else concerned that this guy is at the helm of a Jerry flick?
