    Korea

A great way to link up with people in Korea is through the ultimate frisbee league. I imagine it's a whole new set of people there now, but while I was there it was a great mix of Koreans and expats. There are leagues in several cities and weekend tournaments throughout the year. http://www.koreaultimate.net/

    Korea

I recommend going to Dok Jeok Do for a weekend getaway close to Seoul. It is off the coast of Incheon, takes about 2 hours on a ferry from the Incheon boat terminal. Good beaches and good hikes to be had! If you are in Seoul and want a break from Korean food check out Marrakesh Nights (Moraccan), Indigo (greasy spoon breakfast) or Taco Amigo. I second the Seoraksan hike too. There is a bar on 'hooker hill' in Itaewon called Old Town. One of the sketchiest, weirdest places I've ever been. Stop by there at 4 or 5am to see what I mean. Bar Nana is a spot in Itaewon that used to get the odd good live band. Hongdae has a fun night life too - I remember a lot of cool, comfortable, dimly lit hookah dens found tucked away down hidden alleys. Mapo (in Seoul) has the best galbi restaurants. I wish I knew the name of the place I used to go to for huge beef galbi feasts. There are plenty of galbi restos to choose from though in that area. Jeju is worth a weekend trip as well. Sorry, my memories from Korea are a bit hazy!

    Introducing...

Congrats on the little wee bundle of joyyyyy!
  10. Good skanks, Help me win a Ticats jersey! I've entered the "TigerTown Worldwide" contest by submitting a picture of me wearing a Ticats hat in a far off place (Ethiopia). I'm in the shortlist, and need your votes to win the jersey. Vote for Pic #1! I think I've successfully embedded the post below... Thanks! " data-width="550"> Post by Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

  12. Harry Manx featuring Kevin Breit and Clayton Doley two nights in a row this month at Hugh's Room in Toronto... $45 bucks a head though!! Ooof. http://hughsroom.com/2013/05/harry-manx/ http://hughsroom.com/2013/05/harry-manx-2/
  13. If you are in Toronto, there's always this...
  14. The Akai AA-1135 receiver was $150. I think it needs cleaning/servicing and in hindsight I might have been able to find something else, but I don't regret it. Gotta get your feet wet at some point. The Dual CS 616 Q turntable was $90 I think. The Dynaco A-25 speakers were $180. So that adds up to $420. Only $20 over budget! I've dropped another $30 or so on cables, wires and a cable splicer tool.. Gotta get some of that turntable maintenance gear still, and yes I will be spending a lot more on vinyl moving forward.
  15. Well folks, the system is now complete. Last night I picked up an incredibly sweet sounding pair of Dynaco A-25s, built in Denmark in 1970 and all original parts still. :relax: Here they are:
  16. Cool. I am going to see and hopefully buy a pair of Dynaco A-25 speakers tomorrow night. The finishing touch. In other news, I picked up the following on vinyl this weekend: - Little Feat - Waiting for Colombus - Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks live in the UK circa 82 - The Band - Rock of Ages - Paul Simon - Graceland - Jackie Mittoo - Showcase Vol 3
  17. Good calls on the cartridge juice, stylus brush, anti-static record brush and anti-static turntable mat. I'd like to go to one of those Bay Bloor clinics. Will check out their site. The Rev also recommended bringing my table in to Bay Bloor Radio. I'm gonna go ahead and ask a stupid question: why is no-static important? To keep dust off I guess? RE: Locke St Audio... Good to know (and sorry to hear). Actually I think that shop might be a goner now. I couldn't find it when I was down there a few weeks ago.
  18. On vinyl, and worth noting that this is the FIRST record I have ever spun on my new stereo set up! I am still lacking good speakers but I've got the new (to me) receiver and new (to me) turntable hooked up and here we go!
  19. One step closer folks! I picked up a Dual CS 616Q last night for $90. Made in West Germany in the early 80s, direct drive, semi automatic, quartz controlled, ortofon cartridge with about 1,000 hours left on it, and in great shape overall. More sexy pics: http://audiolesswpg.blogspot.ca/2012/12/dual-cs-616q-turntable.html Next up is speakers. I'm now mostly looking for a set of Dynaco A-25s or A-25 XLs.
  20. Nice that you were able to just plug in and go Hart! I am searching every day and still trying to get my hands on speakers and a turntable. I've learned that the trade-off for not having a big pile of money to drop is that it takes time and patience. Is that deal on the Q-Acoustics still on the table BR??
  21. Can't make it to Rochester anymore. I'm looking for $70 Canadian a piece. That's $12 off face value! The show is General Admission. Get in touch if you are interested. Thanks.
