  6. Grateful Dead - Historic Dead Have any of you heard this? Just acquired it on vinyl and am listening for the first time. Really great Pigpen tunes and overall high energy Dead.
  7. The highlight of my 2013 musical listenings is that I finally got into vinyl (acquired a nice little set up with the help of all of you). So I have been happily collecting and listening vinyl gems that are mostly old stuff. It has been awesome. Nevertheless, here is what I can muster from 2013: Top new albums of 2013 Swearin' - Surfing Strange .... One of my only 'new finds' of the year, they sound kind of garage-rock-ish I think.. I have to listen to it again. I am looking forward to actually getting into it. They're coming to Toronto mid-March. http://www.npr.org/2013/10/27/240578154/first-listen-swearin-surfing-strange Doug Paisley - Golden Embers ... This is a 5-song EP by Toronto folk guy Doug Paisley, who kind of reminds me of Bonnie Prince Billy in sound (a bit folk, a bit bluegrass) and earnestness. It features Leslie Feist on vocals and John Showman (New Country Rehab / Crazy Strings / Creaking Tree String Quartet) on fiddle. Really mellow and pretty. http://www.cameronhouserecords.com/doug-paisleys-golden-embers-finally-gets-canadian-release/ Yo La Tengo - Fade .... I was underwhelmed by the two YLT shows I saw in 2013, but enjoy the album. Hayden - Us Alone Neko Case - The Worse Things Get... 2013 albums that I am looking forward to checking out still: The Sadies - Darker Circles Fiver - Lost the Plot Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest Arcade Fire - Reflektor Bonobo - The North Borders Albums to look forward to in 2014: - new Daniel Lanois - new The Hold Steady
  8. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/dave-matthews-forms-supergroup-with-jakob-dylan-20131216 Dave Matthews Forms Supergroup with Jakob Dylan The Nauts also feature Bob Dylan guitarist Charlie Sexton, among others By Kory Grow December 16, 2013 1:20 PM ET A jam project featuring Dave Matthews, Jakob Dylan, Bob Dylan guitarist Charlie Sexton, his brother Bill and drummer Brady Blade has evolved into an official group named the Nauts, according to Mix. The band is currently self-producing its debut album at Blade Studios, which the drummer co-owns, in Shreveport, Louisiana. The website for Unscene! – an arts events series that takes place each month in Shreveport – contains a bio page for the Nauts, featuring copy from the Mix article. Consequence of Sound, which spotted the bio, suggests the band may make its live debut at an Unscene! concert. Meanwhile, Matthews told Rolling Stone last month that he was working on a new Dave Matthews Band album with producer Rob Cavallo. He said his group has already been playing some of the upcoming album's songs "for a long time" at its concerts but that he is still challenging himself in the studio. "I'm just trying to come up with something that doesn't sound like the past," he said at one point. "Whenever I start messing around in the studio, I start writing, so hopefully we can come up with something worth listening to." This month, the Dave Matthews Band played Johannesburg, South Africa, where the artist was born, as well as a tour of South America. Matthews doesn't have anything else on his schedule between those dates and an Australian tour in April, which could give him plenty of time to record with his own band, the Nauts and Sesame Street character Grover.

  15. NewRider please hook us up with a house show. I'll pitch. http://exclaim.ca/News/hold_steady-hold_steady_to_crowdfund_new_covers_ep It's been three and a half years since Midswestern rockers the Hold Steady released their last album, Heaven Is Whenever. While they've yet to release a follow-up (aside from that Game of Thrones song), they're now working on new material. First up, a covers EP. The group are seeking the help of fans to crowdfund the project via PledgeMusic, with an undisclosed portion of the proceeds going toward the K+L Foundation in memory of their fan and friend Mike "Jersey Mike" Van Jura. Van Jura was the unofficial leader of the Hold Steady's fan club The Unified Scene, and eventually became a friend of the band. He passed away in November 2012. Each member of the Hold Steady will choose a song to cover on the new five-song EP. Once that's released, they'll get to work on their next full-length album, which is expected in 2014. There are multiple options for donations, each with their very own perks. These range from joining frontman Craig Finn on a jog or sharing a six-pack with the band, to hosting a live Hold Steady house show (for the standard house-show price of $15,000). http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/theholdsteady
  16. ".. and I suppose there will be a whole new meaning attached to "Eat 'em raw!" for Sunday's game." Ahahhaha gold! My friends made this:
