  1. The #1 event of Luminato this year. (I'm missing it too, damn).
  2. Haha Booche who is that guy and that girl?
  3. Happy birthday Sean, rock on!
  4. More info and context needed.. I'm a bit slow today.
  5. I'm gonna guess it was Mike Flipposwitch.
  6. No problemo Karen. Looks like it's kind of close to my work.
  7. PS - This event and a few others aside, is it just me or was last year's Luminato lineup stacked wayyyyy more than this year's? Last year's free shows included: Taj Mahal, Daniel Lanois, Derek Trucks, Harry Manx, Toumani Diabate, The Henrys, Kevin Breit, etc.
  8. That will be a great show! The movie "Throw Down Your Heart" which inspired the show is a great documentary that I've been raving about. The film is showing the same day as the show, with a Q&A with Bela Fleck and Malian (?) musician Bassekou Kouyate after the movie. http://www.luminato.com/2010/events/113 Highly recommended! Unfortunately I'll be out of town that day, so I'm hoping to read all about it right here afterwards.
  9. It is definitely out - I grabbed one at the Horseshoe when they opened for Plants & Animals. They also have this merch item that is a card with basil (?) seeds embedded in it, and has written on it a code to download the new album. Everyone kept almost taking them without paying cuz they just look like business cards. The disc is growing on me. I feel the same as DaveO.
  10. Looks like it is a webcast too? www.twostonethrow.com
  11. Just noticed this in the NOW listings: Days of You Where: T.S.T's Launch Pad, 46 Hyde, Toronto, M6M 1A0, twostonethrow.com When: Jun 5 Ticket Info: twostonethrow.com
  12. Woah! Cool. Pat Metheny should check out the Cantos Music Museum in Calgary - this really cool collection of musical artifacts including player pianos and orchestrions. This just reminded me of the Cantos museum is all - and y'all should put it at the top of your list next time you go to Calgary.
  13. Thanks for the heads up. No MMW this year on mine and NewRider's birthday??
  14. Not sure if this has already been posted or not.. Slow day on the board today though so thought I'd post something. Arcade Fire Announce New Album! http://pitchfork.com/news/38940-arcade-fire-announce-new-album/ Finally! Arcade Fire have announced on their website that their third album, The Suburbs, will be released August 2 in the UK/Europe and August 3 in the U.S. via Merge. On their site, you can pre-order the album, listen to the new single "The Suburbs" b/w "Month of May", check out the lyrics to "The Suburbs" (and play around with those lyrics) and more.
  15. Glad that I made it down to the Shoe to catch the last few songs of this show last night, it was kick ass! Jason Collett sat in for a tune, also Ron Sexsmith was up there and led one verse. I was blown away by Ron's performance, even though he only led for about 30 seconds of that song - wow what a VOICE! I only saw him once, years ago at the Casbah but that show did not leave as much of an impression, but I'll certainly be hoping to catch him again soon. Apparently earlier in the night Ron was up there for a bunch of other songs, also some Skydiggers. The Beauties were wicked - high energy country rockin. They encored with "Waiting For My Man" which kicked. Can't wait to see this band some more this summer. The attendance at the 'shoe was just perfect - lots of people but still enough room to move around and line up a good spot to see the band (without having to station yourself in front of the amp to the left of the stage which is often the case for the big shows).
  16. Wow, you've been hard at work - really enjoying the blog, keep it going!
  17. I had a lot of fun, thanks to the organizers for continuing to put these fests on.
  18. I wished I could have made it to this.. The $35+ ticket charge combined with the Tuesday night thing (immediately following the long weekend) stacked this show against my favour though. How was it?? I love this band/guy's music.. Though, the new album isn't doing it for me as much as the two older albums (despite the insane amounts of praise it is getting everywhere else).
  19. Kanada Kev's Lanois thread inspired me to visit Lanois' website, and I saw this: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/;kw=[13193,138765] By Andy Greene Apr 29, 2010 4:47 PM EDT Neil Young recently announced a solo acoustic tour, and his buddy David Crosby tells Rolling Stone his old bandmate is back in the studio, too. Crosby says Young is recording a new album with producer Daniel Lanois, best known for his work with U2 and Bob Dylan. "Neil told me last week that he was having a great time talking music with him and just relating to him," David Crosby says, adding that he volunteered his services for any upcoming sessions. "I said to him, 'If you want a harmony, I'm volunteering.' He said, 'You know, if I need one you'll be the first guy I call.' " Young has rarely worked with big-name producers throughout his four-decade career. "I think that Neil's been a little lonely for someone to interact that way because his best buddy [L.A. Johnson] died and that just really left a hole there," says Crosby. "The guy's paid an awful lot of dues, man. I suspect this will be a very heartfelt record. I expect it will be a very special record." Fans will likely hear a preview of songs destined for the in-progress LP when Young hits the road May 18th for his three-week American theater tour. "He does that [solo acoustic] thing probably better than anybody," adds Crosby. "One of my most favorite concerts of his was him at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. He had a circle of his guitars around him and a chair, and he walked out there and sang. It was mesmerizing. He's a fantastic musician, but also a great storyteller. I was standing there in the wings with Bob Dylan. He and I are huge Neil fans, and we didn't move. We stood there the entire concert and just watched. We were as mesmerized as much as the audience was."
  20. Awesome! Perfect for the Friday workday preceding a long weekend.
  21. Hmmm.. I'll keep my eyes peeled for this gigantic can, but won't be surprised if it slips by me!
  22. The Idlers are great, they are one of the big draws for me this weekend at CTMF! They recorded their latest album in upstate NY with the bassist fro Bad Brains as the Producer. And the Idlers features members of The So So's - remember them? Here's an article: http://www.thecoast.ca/halifax/golden-idlers/Content?oid=1378746
